NZ Mint issues 1930s Biking Coin collection

The New Zealand Mint is releasing a limited edition set of silver coins celebrating motorcycles of the 1930s.

Only 6,000 sets of “Great Motorcycles of the 1930s” – said to be the world’s first pure silver coloured coin collection celebrating the two-wheeled machines - will be made for worldwide distribution.

“The 1930s was a booming period for motorcycle manufacturing and IZH, Ariel, Matchless, BSA and Brough Superior were among the most important manufacturers during the time,” says Mark Sutton, general manager of the New Zealand Mint.

“New Zealand Mint is proud to bring these wonderful machines to life and present them on a beautiful and timeless collectable coin.”

The motorcycles featured are: Soviet 1938 IZH 8, the Ariel 100 Squarefour, the British 1931 Matchless Silver Hawk, the 1930 BSA Sloper and the 1932 Brough Superior SS100. Each coin features a motorcycle tyre tread on the coin rim.
