    Totally agree

Its a great wee ride over to Port Levy, sure its steep and twisty on the way up but ride with in your abilities and you'l love it.The pull back up the hill from the Port Levy side will bring a smile......

You young ones....no sense of adventure

Yeah ya do have a point and I couldn't agree more about the time in the saddle thing. (Just ask the missus how many times shes heard that from me!) but I'm not just thinking of myself, hey I'll ride almost anywhere although I do prefer the nice stuff. I'm thinking of Mrs El Stevo who is still novice and lacking confidince, I'm trying to drag her along to one of these Wed night rides but I'm fairly certain she wouldn't enjoy that particular road. I'm sure there are others out there that may love it but for a beginner it should be about enjoying yourself rather than stressing out on a tight narrow twisty gritty back road. This may be only my opinion but isn't enjoyment what riding is all about? Otherwise we'd all not bother and drive cars.

Does that road link up with another road out or is it a case of reaching the end then turning around and coming back along the same road?

We have friends at Purau Bay and may be interested in a pootle out that far to catch up with them then catch up with you guys later if it's feasible.

If your keen there is a shingle road from memory out the back of Pidgeon Bay that takes you up to a 'summit road', so would need to go a little further than Port Levy. Turning right at this summit and following the road back to the hilltop tavern above Little river.

Did this ride last time I went to the Little River Rally a few years back, was very pleasant, even the shingle part wasn't too bad, the road (sealed) along to the hilltop is pretty good too, some nice flowing corners.

Or there is a shingle road out back of Port Levy too I think that comes out right in Little River.

Talking about time in the saddle for experience, a bit of time on shingle doesn't go amiss really either.

But back Godley House is also nice. ;-)

That bloody road is cursed last time I did it 21yrs ago I got a puncture only 300-400m into it and ended up having to push my bike back to Diamond harbour to use the pay phone to get the old man to come out with a trailer to pick me up old sod told me to start walking, eventually met him by the Charteris Bay golf club

Even if the road from Charteris to Diamond harbour is 50km zone theres plenty to keep you alert & on your toes. Purau to Port Levy is a great wee stroll for learning lines & placement on the road.

Nah. Not really keen on the gravel. I would be alright but Mrs Oakie hasn't done it before and I guess a group ride would not be the time to start. I was sort of thinking that if we popped in to see our friends at Purau Bay we could hook up with the group again when it comes back assuming that it came back on the same road.

Absolutely no gravel for you two if your going to stop and visit friends in Purau

Just a little bit more of the flat curvy roads that lead to Diamond Harbour.I assume if the ride did go over to Port Levy, riders would come back the same way

Yeah that makes sense, sounds like a good ride to me, out to Port Levy and back to Diamond Harbour for food/drink.

As for the ride, I can see why people arnt to sure about going out there and back again. But lets be honest here, they dont have to. They can stop at Diamond Harbour and we can carry on and meet up with them on the way back at Godley House, stop for dinner, and then we can carry on as a group. As Dave mentioned it doesnt get dark until like after 9 so this shouldnt be a problem.

Hell if its a really nice night like last night, I think I might take along a few beers in my back pack and sink one sitting at the side of the ocean down in the picnic area.

Cant think of a better way to spend an evening.

EDIT: Its good to see some discussion in this thread again. It got a little stagnant after we got stopped from talking about pies and other misc crap.

But if you met them that would dilute the effect of meeting us. It's all about 'us' you know.
