Having read of your misadventures of late, and not knowing you from a bar of soap, I was a tad apprehensive to be immediately in front / behind you on Saturday. I'm no Rossi and don't pretend to be, and I don't have that much open road or group experience, but I will say for the group here that I thought you did a fine job considering your confidence must be zero at the moment. Good in a straight line, easy on the corners, not much wrong with that. After following you for a couple of hours, I don't know how you have put it down the road so many times. Must be bad luck or summit? Hell, the only thing you did wrong in 5 hours of riding was flood your bike on the forecourt trying to start it up! If you've got everything else sorted and that's your only problem, you'll be fine.

I say come along. Most of the time on Saturday we were doing 85-95kph, and there was minimal traffic and on back roads. This ride will probably have more traffic and may be on more populated roads, so chances of doing 100-110kph could well be slim unless your keen. If you don't feel comfortable doing 100kph ( plus you got an L plate showing ) I don't mind hanging back doing 85 or whatever with you, cos I know how you feel cos I was there not too long ago, plus my bike starts to get to be hard work at 100+ after a while.

ZRXER on his 1300 beast hung back with me and looked out for me on my first group ride. I was very grateful to him for that cos he could have just gone with the other fast guys. That is the first and only time I have met him, but I will always remember him for that. Same this weekend just gone, Squiggles set a pace at the front which wasn't too hot, and Macstar ( especially, but everyone in general ) looked after us not so experienced guys at the back as TEC, so if your reading Stephen and Issac, thank you very much, I appreciate it a lot . Funny thing is, on the group rides I have been on, afterwards I don't remember who the fast guys were or the big flash bikes, I remember the guys on big bikes who hung back and looked after the newer riders.

Yep we could well be doing 75km/h stuck behind a truck for all I know.

Yeah same. I remember Zapf leading me and a bunch of others on the way back from Kaiaua. He set a great pace and gave some great advice. Especially prior to the tightest bits with decreasing radius corners.

You don't have to cane it to learn to be a better rider.

That is too true, unfortunately a lot of people don't realise it. Better to be the tortiose and get there eventually, than be the hare and blow up halfway while leading.

Might want to leave the turbo at home considering your recent "incidents".

I'm keen to join in - though I'm in town to visit my sister and family, so it'll depend on other plans. Sounds like a good chance to meet some northern KBers though. I have no problems taking it easy.

Don't forget to take your L plates off - 100kpm for 6L or 6R riders, seriously?

    Sheesh.. Some people

6R riders don't wear an L plate and have no speed restriction.

I've yet to meet someone who was pulled over on an L plate at 100km/h and receive the $400 fine.

I've also yet to meet a 6L rider that adheres to the 70km/h restriction - organised ride or not.

Cops tend to ignore L plate riders riding safely at the speed limit. In fact most people seem to get pulled over for not wearing the plate on a small bike.

Much of the ride will be around 50-80km/h due to corners but we will be doing 100-110km/h on the straights. As I've already said if you're not up for that it's not the ride for you.
