Getting cigarette smoke out of leather?

I just bought a pair of leather riding pants, second hand but in great condition and fit really nicely (and I could afford them!)

Problem is they stink of cigarette smoke. Apart from 'airing them out' at 100kmph, how can I get the smell out?

    Thanks

Apart from regular airing, try putting the pants in the hot water cabinet, with a small dish of hot water with a few drops of eucalyptus oil in it. Then regular air outs..

    Thumbs up try this

Mix up some armorial ( that silicon based white cleaning stuff ) with vanilla essence, not the artificial stuff, and give them a wipe over with that.

But once leather is smoke damaged - it's very hard to get ride of the smell

You could post a pic of your self in the new pants - that would help
Lifes Just one big ride - buckle up or hang on

Try leather oil available from a saddler, it may work (has its own smell but its far better than stale smoke) and keeps the leather supple as well. If they have a lining you could turn them inside out and perhaps try a mild soap/lemon essence or similar on the lining. Just an idea, its what I'd try anyway.

Try 'airing' them out at 2 or 300kph, if that doesn't work take up smoking

My mate got some of this and it works on anything even my stinking boots

It's called zero odor and i think it is selling on an infomercial in nz.

There are also products in the supermarket and chemists called Nilodor and Neutrodol - both work really well. I am not sure about spraying it directly on the leather but you could perhaps spray some on a cloth and wipe it on a small area to ensure it doesn't damage them. Or spray it on the insides only. I'm currently using it to get rid of the smell on items I was left by my mother, who was a smoker. I've used it on the interior of cars with great success too.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

Just try farting in them, that should beat cigarette smoke!

Actually it's bloody hard work trying to fart while wearing leathers on your bike. So I take that back. John.

Find someone who has recently given up smoking, and lock them up with them for a few days. They'll soon suck every last bit of smoke outta them!

Failing that, you could wash them in warm water with wool wash ("Softly" or whatever), then dry them out of the sun, or take them to a drycleaner who does leather clothes.

    Thanks for the suggestions

I keep seeing that it is very difficult to completely remove the smoke smell. In that case I might just stick them in a confined space with a lit stick of incense and I can smell like a happy hippie!

baking powder absorbs many odors.....is underrated, probably because it is cheap compared with over the counter "specialist" products.Try it. you'l be surprised..
Opinions are like arseholes: Everybody has got one, but that doesn't mean you got to air it in public all the time....

    Yeah, that's it!
Have a shower, and while you're still damp, sprinkle LOTS of baking powder all over yourself, then spray your leathers with hairspray, sprinkle them liberally with baking soda, then put them on.
If you get bored, get someone to spray you with vinegar or lemon juice.

Bought another leather jacket off trademe, was owned by a smoker buggar, Gezzzz it stank, so I ran a damp cloth all over it sponged it down with some scented baby oil as it has no fats in it, then sprayed the inside with some of the wifes purfume, hung a smellie in the wardrobe, gave it a sun bath most every day, and after a week it started to come good, now it is hardly noticable...Next time if there is I shall ask if a smoker has been wearing the gear, or buy new stuff...
