I don't think you read my rant.

The guy who got given the Holiday over me resigned two days before Christmas.

I have little kids. I've missed some aspect of Christmas for as long as my oldest has been alive, because of one job or another. I wanted a couple of weeks off to spend with them. I like my kids.

Taking holidays in February means they are back at school and kindy. So I get to sit around and scratch my 'nads for a couple of weeks and then go back to work.

Thank you Dave (and the other Dave too). Time to get off my chuff I guess. Too "comfortable" where I am I reckon.

Thank you everyone (especially Yungatart - Tea Towel has been selected) who has responded. Means I can go to work with the red mist deactivated.

Yeah i did but long term effects from a head injury meant i forgot it by the time i wrote that

    It was a diversion from topic, more of a me-me mini-rant. (a mini-rant-me?)

My first post was my proper response to your rant.

Rant, rant, rant, pass the oranges.

    Nothing rhymes with oranges.

Jim, it sounds to me that you need, as others have said, to get out more. Shop around and see what's on the market. Indeed, the best time to shop for a job is when you're already employed. IT is a funny business, sometimes it's long nasty hours and big crunches to get something out the door - but on the other hand some of the companies (and I guess that would be the smaller ones down here) are very flexible by any standard and will reward people who are competent, independent and willing to put in a lot of hours when needed.

Unfortunately you have to teach some employers that they need to appreciate their employees' loyalty!

Anyway, good to hear the old MP managed to save the merry christmas spirit! At least you know it's not the end of the world then...

That's not irony, that's sarcasm! Wait, am I mixing them up again?
It is preferential to refrain from the utilisation of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualisation can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities. (...such as the word fuck.)

Heaps of good advice on this thread.
Maybe I can give you a nudge to make the right decision. If one of your kids is still at kindy then you probably have 10 Christmas's max before they will be off doing their own thing. How many more family holidays do you want to work through? Once missed you will never get that time back.

No doubt you are being dicked around. The fact you have posted on here tells me you are stressed. If you have the evidence you can go after your employer but thats a hard road.

For mine you can either improve your working conditions or change jobs. If you can't do one, do the other.

Exactly, we have a 'Work life balance' philosophy at our work. I have experienced and seen 'life before work' on many occasions and it really is the best way to be.

I am one of those factory workers and it pays great I work 4 days on and 4 days off 12 hour shifts, have the option of working plenty of OT, get plenty of lieu days and holidays during the year, have a strong union that helps keep it fair, and well even have a great time at work. when operating the crane I have my own nice air cond cab with comfy seat and sony stereo system and plenty of time to kick back and relax. Factory work aint all that bad. I used to work in the motorcycle trade but there is no real money in that. Once I had children the factory was the choice I made as I can keep my family fed, clothed, housed and still afford to ride my 3 bikes.
I love my life as it is.

Just happened that my days off fell on xmas this year. I do have to work new years day tho. But that is paid at double time plus stat day pay and a day i lieu. so effectively triple time

Learn summat every day - I thought Irony was an early HD Sportster....

But thinking about it - would that make a later one an alumini?
