    You wooden believe my new stand

    In case anyone is as tight (or stupid) as me, here's my new bike stand.

    Cost was about $50 - mainly for two used jacks. Probably paid too much, but was kind of in a "buy now" mode when I happened to pass a place that sold them. The guy thought I was mental when I asked for two matching jacks.

    The jacks are unmodified so could be re-used, re-sold or whatever one day.

    Due to the scientific principle of "side-standus leanoverus" it's easy to use, as only the lower side really needs to be wound up, and the jack-handle barely needs to be used.

    To be honest, it's really only a prototype - I'm hoping to eventually use my Fathers welder (and my Father) to make a more "solid" one.

    It works. I caught up on some lubricating.

    The jacks sit in a depression planed into the wood, with more wood screwed over the top to hold them down. The things in the top that hold the bobbins, are upside-down T's (left over from an old computer desk) which I clamped together and drilled a big hole in (half each).

    You've over-engineered/spent on it.
    For my VTR, the stand consisted of a length of 2x1" timber, and a 4" nail banged through the end of it.

    you know you can just use one jack to lift the back wheel off the ground right?
    Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

    There were various other "designs" I came up with. One was for the right side to simply be solid, not a jack. Others involved putting the jack (just one) in other places - like ignoring the bobbins altogether and just using the little bit of swingarm available between the tyre and shock mount.

    But I figured having a thing with two jacks on, all fully adjustable, might be useful for other tasks in the garage.

    For example, I like to fit the roof rack on the car by hanging it from the beams and jacking the car up to meet it. It allows for very precise fitting.

    Hard to beat for simplicity.....Mind you, you need a timber deck...

    buy two cheap drills from the whare and link the triggers together electrically?
