I think I'll read the book, now.

    Sounds like the film's pants.

Um... that is EXACTLY what you are supposed to do. Christ set the example and showed the Jewish religious zealots up as a pack of twats.

Some people have a warped idea of Christianity based on the dribble they hear and see on TV or read in an article. Don't let the nutters spoil it for ya.

Nothing wrong with drinking... its taking things to the extreme that leads to many a downfall. So many misunderstand that.

oh dear, most people seem to have loved it. We saw it this evening - husband and kids loved it, if it hadn't been for the sound effects I would have fallen asleep about 3 times through it. My favourite game was trying to recognise the voice talents (took me ages to get Ian McKellan [oh dear], didn't recognise Ian McShane's at all, oh oh oh and I did recognise Eva Green who was Vesper Lynd in the last 007 flick). But I'm not a great fan of fantasy movies anyway, so what would I know.
And as for the religious connotations, as a Christian, I don't really know what everyones knickers are in a twist about - a movie is a movie, hardly gospel, and I did enjoy all the Harry Potters despite controversy over them, oh and most of the Star Wars ones too (remember all the hoo haa when they came out? back in the 70's for those of you old enough to remember...)

I am keen on the golden compass though. Mostly because of how upset religious groups are over it.

enchanted is the new disney that starts as animation, right? well, when i saw the preview for that, i was on the edge of my chair, cos i was so excited to see a new classically animated disney movie... none of this computerised shrek stuff. and then it switched the live action. talk about break a girls heart!

i love the classic disney and "flat" animation. the shrek stuff is neat, but gets boring after a while. give me snow white over cgi and live action anyday.

Towards the end of the book there is a section that is.. quite specific.. The movie stayed right out of that. And the bit I am referring to is almost out of character with the rest of that book. I can imagine parents reading the book after their children and getting quite a shock at the content in that section. Those who believe in the bible, and those who do not.

Read the book though; it's good. I must purchase the next two.

Golden compass ... This I really liked ... it was well storylined and good cliffhanger to the next installment ....
