    Taupo RR spectacular by Drew

Fairly relaxed wake up at the camp ground, mozey on to the track and set up the garage. My bike looking a tad second hand with pieced together standard and race fairings passed scrutineering no trouble, so it's a stress free morning to wait for the first session.

Went out pretty gingerly having crashed three times the last weekend on the bike, and picked up the pace throughout the day. Luckily Nick Odermatt showed up when the organisers were putting the grid positions for the racing together and put me fourth row, (cheers bro, probably be starting off the back witht the way I'd ridden that day.)

    RACE DAY

The scrub session went well and the bike was feeling great, I was amped and hanging out for a race.

Race 1; started not too shabby and got by a few bikes in the opening laps, then had a some guys come by me into turn one, found myself being held up by a CBR that I lacked the testicular fortitude to go round, finished top ten over all I think.

Race 2; leave the line and the heavens open, massive dump of rain lasting about 30 seconds gets the track well greasy, and I back off, not as much as the guys in front of me however and I start riding round them. Managed to get up into fourth over all but lose a spot to Mr Stroud as the track dries out. Finish 5th over all and third Supersport.

Race 3; the track is wet before we get out, and despite pushing to the point of sliding a lot, some of the guys have fitted wets. Got a bunch of guys in the first lap, including Stroud again and set about staying upright. A slightly dry line appears but every time I get off it the bike is all over the show, managed to hold Stroud off accross the line and come back to the pits with my head expanding by the minute, (couple hundred horses and a damp track seems to be not much fun).

Feature race, I'm on the second row right behind Stroud on the inside track, not where I wanna be, and off the grid into turn one I'm forced back and rubbing fairings with a ZX6. Put my head down and make back some spots, but a bike goes down at the end of the back straight leaving me no where to go but into the run off area, F$&K!!! Screw a U'ey and return to the track to see the red flag, thank the good lord cos I was half a lap back on the field. Restart goes heaps better and just as I get into a grove another crash ends the race.

I had a great time both days, a huge thanks to my lovely lady Flame for all the support, our sponsors KTL Motorcycles, Rob and Cherry Taylor, Anglo American Motorcycle club, you guys are all fantastic. My Dad who came to watch and supply biscuits, SANX for the pics and coffee, everyone else for the encouragment and kind words, thank you all.

Massive thanks to the organisers for the best two days on a track to date, I was grinning like hell the whole time.

What a day!! Fine then rain and then fine again... and more rain. There were a few lucky bastards that had wets for both Wanganui and Taupo but alas not all... and you were not alone in going out there on slicks and riding hard out in the wet.

Looking good out there Drew (and the Vixster!!! boy those ducati's sound nice) but have to say (one eyed that I am).. that I was absolutely CHUFFED out to see a certain red Honda on slicks take fourth place in the third race sliding everywhere and giving his absolute best and in the best form that I have seen him yet.
