It's still failing to proceed. I just haven't bothered to look at it, to be honest. I do not have the time. I really don't. I had a whole day off work for no particular reason yesterday, and I couldn't even come up with an hour to go out and play with a multimeter and a screwdriver.Originally Posted by firestormer
Until further notice, I am officially one of the Electromechanically Unenlightened, or at least Unresourced. So Kerry can have it, along with a small wad of my hard-earned cash. I'll give him a call this afternoon, I think.
Now... I just need to get it to him.
I'm going to resurrect my 'broken bike' thread and ask for van-or-trailer favours from Te Atatu to Morningside. I don't even trust myself to tie it down on a rental trailer without help. Gawd, I'm pathetic.

OK, guys.
Let it be known that Kerry ROCKS, big-time.
Not only did he just agree to squeeze in a look at my poor wee 'sickle at the earliest opportunity, he's even going to swing by and pick it up in his van tomorrow (don't worry Kerry, I won't forget to call and remind you)
I think he's approaching the status of KB Preferred Spannerer. Perhaps we could make him a promotional wall poster for the shop...

Yeah. It's a transport appliance, not a pride-and-joy-mobile. I'm not likely to have any other sort of bike for the next decade or so; they'll get bigger, but not more loved. Used, abused and discarded, will be my riding motto. It's all those common-as-muck Jappas are good for, anyway, isn't it?Originally Posted by Blakamin
Anyway, I'm having fun discussing religion and philosophy on my carpooled commutes with the ColleagueRoundTheCorner (style gratefully appropriated from böringfahrt), so it's not as though I'm in dire straits until it's fixed. I can go another week without major dramas.
And weren't they changing the bucket rules to allow 150cc four-strokes? The FXR would kick *arse* if they did. It makes over 20bhp at the wheel and handles like a razor on P.
Even if they don't, it shouldn't be too much of a huge deal to sleeve the chamber, lap the piston and call it a 140, I wouldnae thunk. But then I'm a MechanicalNumpty, so what would I know.

It's on Western Springs Road. You can either go the way SpeedMedic said, or if you're coming from town, head west along New North Road, and turn right into Western Springs Road after going about two blocks (?) past the shops at Kingsland. Motohaus is about 50m along on the left, just past the apex of the bend.Originally Posted by Magua

It's kinda funny. I spent the first 15 years of my life living just around the corner in Malvern Road. Such a big world, and so many places I keep ending back up at. You'd think there'd be a bit more variety, wouldn't you?Originally Posted by firestormer

The first pic with the damaged lugs.. hmm.. it wouldn't be the easiest, but as long as it wasn't going to be taking any load on it then my dodgy ass plastic welding would work.Originally Posted by Magua
The crack in the second pic would be easy to do.
I'd weld it from the back only. Make sure the bits line up, then using a soldering iron lightly melt the plastic so as to hold it all together.
After that, start melting a a cable tie onto the crack, in the same way you'd use solder when soldering a joint. The cable tie is a nice tacky sort of plastic when melted, and combines the plastic from the fairing to make a fairly solid joint.
I've only tried on my fairings, but I'd assume that yours would be made out of the same plastic as mine, and that a cable tie would be a compatable plastic.
In wind tunnel testing the plastic welds on my top fairing have passed a simulated 170km/h, so it holds together pretty well.
