    Calling Christchurch people...

    Hey all.
We're playing with the idea of maybe moving down your way in the next year or three so I need your opinions....
What are the good areas to look at in the city and her surrounding towns (Amberley - Rakaia - Darfield kind of area), and which areas don't come with the best of neighbours? What about the inbetweens? Is there a rule of thumb?
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Cheers.

my grandparents moved to woodend in chch, then my uncle and his new family did, then my other uncle (they're twins) moved to an area just outside of woodend with his new family.

woodend is a 20 min drive outside of the city, so its a half hour or more to get into the centre, however you've got northlands and northwood malls close by.

the problem lies in if you have teenage kids, the logic my olds applied here is that if I didnt taxi I'd drive/ride, and possibly intoxicated, I however dont think my parents give me as much credit as I deserve...as that's just retarded....

or there's the port hills/banks peninsula, lyttelton if you like the smell of your own farts, or akaroa if you like the smell of snails and your own farts.

I'm tempted to say repost - simply because there was someone who posed more or less exactly the same question on this forum perhaps 2-3 weeks back. I'm sure if you dig for it you'll find it

Edit: How nice of me - I dug it out for you http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=60111

So in a nutshell according to that thread it sounds like South (and South of South) is the go, the hill area, or West / NorthWest of Hagley Park if you want to be closer to town.
Sweet - I'm coming down to have a look tomorrow.

I suggest you check out Lincoln-far enough out to be rural, close enough in to be commuter friendly to ChCh. Nice area.

Where will you be working in Chch?

Whats the maximum amount of time you want to commute?

I loved that city when I lived there and I'd love to go back to. As for where to live though there is one important point - how flush with cash are you?

You can go from buying a Finn type mansion in Fendalton for say $3-$5 mill, to a house in Ilam for say $900k, or in the outer suburbs for say $400k or out in the outlying towns for maybe a bit less. My daughter goes to Lincoln uni and she settled on living in Hornby in the end because Lincoln itself was a bit more expensive and by being on the bus route in Hornby she was flexible able to go either way to ChCh city or to Lincoln when she needed to.
    Cheers
