    New bike leap record set

Australian freestyle motocrosser Robbie Maddison has smashed the previous record of 277’ by 25’. Maddison set the new figure - jumping the equivalent of an American football pitch lengthways – at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, just a few moments after the Times Square ball dropped to signify the start of 2008.

“I came here to jump a football field,” Maddison said, “Conditions weren’t perfect but I’m happy with the result. Yesterday in rehearsal I went 350 feet and I knew 360 feet was achievable. We did all we could, but the winds played a bigger factor than we’d planned. I just want to thank everyone that made this jump possible and a big thanks to all the fans who came out to support me. This is just the beginning.”

Saw this on the news yesterday. Think they said he jumped 98 metres.
What you haven't mentioned in the post is he did it twice.

Also said he's going to do a jump in Australia to beat this record.

The runup to the jump looked scarey having to take a turn under the building to miss a concrete pillar so a better run up and he'll go heaps further.

Thanks for that - didn't know he broke it twice! As you mentioned he hopes to break the record again, I did a little digging to see if I could find out where and when.

Maddison hopes to break the record when he jumps off against Americans Seth Enslow and Ryan Capes at the Crusty Demons Night of World Records for the Guinness World Record title on March 29 at Melbourne's Calder Park Raceway.

He is also planning to talk to Red Bull (his sponsors) about building a 300km/h MotoGP-powered machine in a lightweight chassis capable of propelling him 200 metres.

Now that I would love to see!

Sort of fits in the the Redbull gives you wings theme.

Would think the faster you go the harder its going to be to sort out the right place to put the catch ramp.
