Was it just me, or was Brothers Grimm REALLY good? Some bands can play, some bands can perform. They could do both - rare find!
Exceptional Seafood garlic scallop sammy selection, esp pauia patty and the venison Stew. Always good food selection at this rally.
I was told it cost $4K for "Brothers Grimm", worth every penny I reckon

Friday's ride down was pretty good, a tad windy in places but mostly hot and sunny. Met up with some of the southern crew; Daffyd, Nighthawk, 98TLS, and northern; bent51 (nice to meet you at last)... oh I'm so hopeless, forgotten who else was there when we rocked up.
What a great spot we had. Dry shed to party in, haybales to sit on and entertainment to watch all day long.
Thanks to our very own BotB and Lil'M for entertaining us with their own style of show, along with all the other wet Tshirters. And big congrats to RON for winning the wet jock... sorry trevor you just dont do it for us mate Tho u are still entertaining!
pics later when i get permission off the girls
Ask Trevor for permission, he was a hoot! And Bent51 did try to explain his online name as we southerners had all sorts of conitations of a certain theme.

    Yup, definitely a great weekend.
Travelled home as far as Dunners in convoy with McJim, Chickadee, and NighthawkNZ where I stopped for gas...curse the tiny tank!

Got to within 5km from home and found the road closed with about 1.5m of water rushing over a 200m stretch! Back to Owaka to gas up, curse the tiny tank! stay at a Backpackers, and rang a neighbour to find there was an alternative route open, after a couple of Southroads workers told me it wasn't.
So, back I go to cover the last 20km on slushy gravel with water flowing over it in two places. (Thinks: Might have to convert the mighty "V" into an adventure bike).
Finally home to a nice hot shower at about 5pm.

Yeah, Chickadee had soaked her gloves on the way up and at first it looked like a fairly dry trip home so I gave her my 'still dry' wet weather gloves and wore my summer weather gloves for the trip home. Following NighthawkNZ and it started to rain at about Hampden....but not heavily....we stopped at Palmerston so that me and Daffyd could don wet weather gear but I was already soaked to the skin. Putting the wets on top just made sure the water stayed in!

Got close to Dunedin and boy was the weather shit. Visability poor, driving rain and some gusty crosswinds meant overtaking cars was done with more caution that usual which held us up for a bit. Because we were going slower I could see a whole column of other bikes queuing up behind us. I expected them to overtake one by one but the general thought emanating from them was "Fuck This" and no one was going quickly or trying to over take.

    Character building though.....

Well we didn't leave until 1230!!
A bit breezy and the odd skiff of rain up the Waitaki.
It was raining fairly steadily over the Lindis but it had passed well through by the time we got to the other side.

Something to be said for sleeping in eh?

Good to catch up with you all, two nights is hard work though, I need more practice!!!

Nice to meet timg and helenoftroy, and even nicer to discover neither snored, considering the close proximity of our tents.

Although the weather was a little inclement at times, the March Hare remains one of my favourite rallys, and I'm looking forward to it again next year.

I thought the Brothers Grimm were very good except for the bloke singing all the ACDC songs. As an acker dacker fan from way back it's my opinion he butchered them and Bon would be rolling in his grave worse than a dodgy pie in a guts full of grog.
Still, that's only my opinion and not really a complaint, more an observation and regardless, me and my mates had a great time.

PS: To the poster calling Harley riders scumbags: not all of us fit into your pigeon-holing rant: I always ride with courtesy to all other road users, and I ride a Harley 'cos I like riding Harleys, not 'cos I dislike anything else.

Sorry if you misread my post and was offended.......as I said MOST (not all) harley riders......... It was my personal observation. It seem that if a rider was going to wear a dopey helmut, teeshirt with leather vest (in the rain) sandshoes they happend to be riding a Harley. Shit man from the photo's posted I'm no fashon guru myself.

Huh, typical...I'm a dipshit but I don't ride a Harley - your theory holds no water sir! which is not true of my leathers - they certainly hold a lot of water as I found out - in fact it's drying the bastards out that is my current problem!

I would have thought a man from your part of the country would have had the best wet weather gear money could buy! Bung them in the dryer for at least 10 hours they'll be dry as!

The poster was taking the piss, having some fun... this is the net dont be offended by anything ya read.
However like in the sports bike community, there are dick heads that spoil it for others... in this case I am going to use a complete arse of a Harley rider as a example.
On the way to the rally we passed a silver/blueie? Hog, rego 99wsw rider wore a silver and blue lid and had a grey moe, we were doing 110-120kph... come Ashburton we were at the 50kph limit and he passed us while there WAS oncoming traffic cars, people, side roads, kids, dogs everywere.. I estimate him at 70kph.
We pass him once on the open rd at about 110-120kph again but as I was indicating to pass him, he pulled out to pass a car WITHOUT indicating (never saw him do this once) we nearly collided as he did so, just as well I semi expected it... Then road works, we are doing the posted 50kph... same fuckwit on a Harley splits past us at 70-80kph with 1M of room between us and the road cones/oncoming traffic showering us all in shingle...

So SilverGrin, welcome to KB but ya best sort out ya own kind before ripping into others.
*yes I know you would not ride with such a prick, but the public see him on a HD and tar ya's all just like sports bike riders on the Ackers highway.
    cheers DD
