I think MI is great. I wish they would get rid of Jim Moron Afternoon and have MI on year round.

Noelle has a lovely sounding voice, but I heard her use the word "hirsute" interviewing a bloke. He clearly didn't know the word and she just left him dangling, didn't help him out at all. It came across as really rude and I haven't tuned in to her show since.

Prairie Home Companion makes me cringe and I can't turn it off quickly enough.

    Different strokes for different folks...

Loved Matinee Idle, even though I was really only listening when driving round in the cage on jobs. A regular show year-round would be a major win.

I have peltor work tunes mounted on my climbing helmet, so when im swinging around in the trees I get to enjoy Matinee idol. (as long as the chainsaw doesnt drown it out, although at times that can be a blessing and sometimes for some reason I feel compelled to run a saw in each hand pressed against my ears)

Nice work, your the reason why there is a geneva convention and guys laughing from the tree tops

Hey - thank you for your honesty!!! If I may, I'd like to give you a little background on the show: I was asked four years ago if I'd like to present an afternoon programme for a month from Boxing Day. RNZ management, figuring there wouldn't be too many people listening, also told me I could pretty much play what I like!

HEAVEN ON A STICK for a radio announcer... (I can't bring myself to use the "DJ" term)

To be honest, the alternative was to be reruns of 45 minute documentaries on "Gorse Eradication In Central Otago" or something, so I jumped at it. After 30-odd years in commercial radio (which, incidentally, I now find to be totally unlistenable) this was a golden opportunity.

After many months agonising over exactly what I was going to do, I figured I may as well just play music that I found interesting, for whatever reason. And it seemed to work....

I must aadmit to being quite surprised at the reaction, most of which is pretty positive. As I keep saying to people, it ain't brain surgery, and as I'm sure you've gathered, the whole thing is pretty unrehearsed and seat-of-the-pants radio. Like I mentioned earlier, I'm too old and boring too really be concerned about negative comments - if someone doesn't like it, feel free to switch off.

Anyway, back to that all-nighters now on Nat Rad - harsh reality!

Thanks again for your comments, and I look forward to more messages on this forum.

    Have a KILLER weekend...

PS: Blatant name-dropping here - I had a coffee this morning with Aaron Slight. He lives not too far from me, and as I used to race bikes about a million years ago, we have a little in common. I must tell him about this forum....
