    Stupid high compression pistons...

well, i was looking through JE pistons, seeing what piston kits i could get if i wanted to do up a classic bike in the future (yet another bike on my list of things to take a spanner to)

And, well, i stumbled along this gs1100 piston package.

GS1100, second from the bottom. 1570 cc big bore kit with a compression ratio of 15:1, sweet merciful crap. What kind of fuel would need to be run in that thing?

I've got a set of MTC pistons that I removed from a GS1100 engine I bought as a spare. Dunno the compression but they are pretty high domed compared to the standard ones. I used them for one trip down South. Was going really, really well along the Wairau valley when it seized in a big smoking cloud. Left it to cool for about half an hour and it restarted, a bit rattly and pretty smoky. Used 11 litres of oil getting to and from the Brass but it got me there and back. Those old GS motors are TOUGH.
The MTCs are not in too bad shape and could possibly be reused, Rings are obviously trashed, but they are the same size as Honda Civic Shuttle.
Thanks for posting the JE chart - might come in handy some day
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

Just as a point (though SCBob has implied it) the GSX was sold in the US still as the GS after it went 4 Valve. No idea why, same mentality that the UK got the RD350YPVS & the rest of the world got the RZ350YPVS.
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.
