    VTR1000 Right Front Indicator

    Hey all,
    I bought a fairly common bike (VTR1000F) Its about 6 months old and has a broken indicator. Thought that this wouldnt be an issue and rang a couple of shops to order one thinking it would be a stocked item. Pretty suprised that its not and will have to come ex-japan.. WTF? How come? Do the stores not stock common bits that get broken? I was a bit suprised at the price of 135 + GST too.

    Im gonna hunt one down through auto dismantlers but thinking about it...
    a) Seems to me, new parts are difficult to get (off the shelf) un-like car parts. (Got a similar issue with my other bike and am waiting 2 months for a part)
    b) They're expensive.. (or am I wrong?)

    Can anyone recommend a good auto wrecker prefereably in the Welly area?

    How bad is it broken???? Lens or is the rubberised shaft no longer holding the indicator.

    I had the same probs in Ak...... there is not that many VTR's in NZ.

    I bought Qty-2- really good condition (10 pound) from the UK.... love that e-bay

    I would suggest going back into the shop and telling them you're not interested in the "genuine Honda part at $135 + GST that has to come from Japan, thanks". There are aftermarket copy indicators that are readily available and should only set you back about $50 (incl GST).

    AFAIK, the VTR indicators are common to many models, so they shouldn't be hard to get from a wrecker. Alternatively, stick some Buell ones on: they're MUCH cheaper, so you could get a set of four for less than one OEM Honda one from the dealer.

    I just about never buy my Honda parts from the dealer, as EVERY time, they say, "Sorry - not in stock; they'll have to come from Japan". And the prices are ridiculous. The crowning moment was a set of cush rubbers: I paid a deposit, and they said they were indent stock, and there were none available even in Japan until they had enough orders to whittle some out of unobtainium, which could take up to 6 months . After 6 or 7 months, I contacted them again, and they'd actually forgotten to place the order!
    So, I ordered some (plus some other bits) from Ride Now Motorsports in Mrka, and got them a couple of weeks later. Get this: they were available ex-stock for around NZ$20, compared with sometime? Never? I dunno? and "at least $85" from the dealer.
    I now buy most of my stuff (even nuts'n'bolts) from Ride Now, and have them ship it to a friend in New York, or another in Florida. Even with shipping, it's quicker and cheaper.

    Thanks for your help guys. I'll definitley get Non OEM parts and save myself time and $$ and... grief!
    My Brother is in the UK so I'll see if he can get them and air freight them to me.
    To answer Guided Monkey: Broken to the point that the only reason its still there is that the electrical wires have not broken. I.E Its hanging by the wires.
