If I manage to wake up on time I will try and leave home by 8.00am. Stop for gas where most bikes do, at the caltex Rimutaka at about 8.30am. Maybe 8.31 ...8.32 ...

Assuming you are somewhere near Wgtn City DMNTD, you simply follow highway 2 and don't turn off it until Carterton which is about one hour 15 m from Wgtn. Head up H2 and stay safely out of Lower and Upper Hutt cities (rough neighbourhoods). From Caltex Rimutaka it's a fun ride over the Hill to Featherston - don't turn off at Feathers - straight on through to Carterton. The sprints are on Dalefield Rd, which is the first left as you enter Carterton.

It's going to be damn hot out there, be prepared.

    From the event website:
NOTE: if you are arriving to the event, please take the Brooklyn Rd route as the sprint route comes down Dalefield Rd itself. The pits/sausage sizzle etc are on Thomas Rd.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

Went and had a look - great weather, a slight breeze but didn't seem enough to put the riders off course (riders themselves might feel differently about that)
Only stayed for the first two sets of runs - Kawasaki 1200 was fastest up to that point with runs of 283 and 279 (IIRC) - thats 179.99 in the old money. And that is F*ckin impressive when its going past about 3-4 metres away
It was not a very wide road and I'll bet it looked a lot narrower from the cockpit at that speed. Max respect to all the riders.

Interesting aside with all the furor over exhaust noise limits - the bikes were louder - much louder - when approaching than after they had passed. Even at full throttle the exhaust noise wasn't going to bother anyone.
    V twin engines sound nice.

Hopefully the promotors will be posting the full days results somewhere.

(was thinking about having a go but there was no class for ride on lawnmowers or zimmer frames)

that zx12 melted his front gard and that was on his fastest run of the day, then pulled out due to battery crapping out and it was to dam hot for me to be pushing him wearing black leathers . I now have a melted momento from the day to put on the trophy wall. Was cool fun to hold the throttle open and not get a speeding ticket, big thanks to the cliffhanger people ,big f#&k you to the dick who drove through the barriers when the bikes were running (nearly knocked a few bikes lined up and riders trying to stop him).

It sure was hot out there again - I don't know if it's worse to be exposed and frying, or in leathers and stewing.....

Yep - the new Cliff Hanger Sprint record belongs to Malcolm Breadmore, who posted 313.57 kph on his NO2 assisted 06 Hyabusa.

I will have to ask him but it sounded like the revs rose rather quicker than normal a couple of times during his run.....I wonder if the back tyre was breaking traction over any small bumps ??

Great to meet DMNTD, and the guys from Tauranga - thanks for coming down.

Nice catching up with Quasi again after a while.

As for the guy who drove through the start road block........WTF was he thinking ? Barge past 30 odd hot and bothered bikers, all with excess pent up adrenalin, just waiting for an outlet.

Those red flag poles are pretty strong eh ? He seemed pretty angry about the thwack to his pillar - lucky for him I missed the pricks head. What was he gonna do though - I turned round and half a dozen bikers were heading our way...

I have the hard copy of results in my hand - big ups to The Tazman who had not slept after a night shift, then brought his PC over to record the results and print off the certificates - show your appreciation by stopping in at Kitty O'Shea's for a cold one sometime and say g'day to Gary.

Gary will probably have the results up soon enough, but here is a few teasers.....just ask if you want any specifics, or results not mentioned.

    Malcolm Breadmore - 06 GSXR 1300 - 313.57kph

    Paul Heard - 07 MV Agusta 312R - 295.53kph

    Warwick Stenning - 07 ZX14 - 293.00kph

    Stephen Somerville - 03 ZX12R - 292.69kph

    Troy Foster - 01 GSXR1000 - 288.93kph

    Kevin Ross - 06 ZX10 - 283.86kph

    Simon Le Breton - 07 CBR1000RR - 283.44kph

Other notable KBers - (sorry OWN3D) - what was your real handle ?)

    Chris Elbe - 93 ZX11 - 265.08kph

    Luke Mair - 96 GSXR750 - 257.42kph (beat Drew's best speed on this bike)

    Phil Snowden - 05 R6 - 257.32kph

    Clive Banks - 05 Tuono - 254.48kph

    Mark Dunn - 07 675 - 249.20kph

    Malcolm Foster - 06 998 Monster - 234.09kph

    Drew Avery - 07 SV650 - 212.76kph

    Malcolm Nabbs - 86 NC21 - 212.00kph (Winner of the 400cc Cup)

    Ivan Juggins - 96 RS125 - 204.08kph

    Clive Banks - 90 CBR400RR - 197.28kph (couldn't get enough so had to enter 2 bikes)

    Simon Story - 95 RVF400 - 177.81kph (what happened to the Unicorn power ?)

Well done Ivan and good talking to you today mate.

That has to be the fastest 125 I've ever seen too - my 8 year old definitely wants to have a go on it. Actually the 3 year old does too - you might have noticed...

Does 313 on a Hayabusa count if you use NOS?

A small random survey I did today would indicate that it doesn't matter NOS or not - if you wanted to bring a turbo busa and do 340 on one wheel it would count.

    What do others think?

    My picks for today:

Best looking bike - the ZRR1100 in black - Cali style, lowered, chromed. Very tasty.

Best sounding bike at full throttle - J Lo. Luke - that bike sounds great. Runner up - the '69 T120 Bonnie.

Least impressive bike - Limbimtimwim - what happened?

    Most impressive bike - Ivan's RS125.

Dickhead of the day. Mr 23 second standing quarter in the White 1998 Nissan Sentra wagon. No one else came close.

Cheers to all who put their bikes and lives on the line. The family had a great time.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

    - James Dickey, Cherrylog Road.

Well at least I voted right - I said the outcome was obvious unless Limpy lost 30kgs and cut his wind resistance - but that big of a gap it would seem the bike needs some serious work too .

Ah ... it doesn't still have its 180km/hr limiter connected does it?
    Cheers

    Merv

This is my bro-in-law and his speed's not too bad considering the ZX14 is still limited to 186mph. Even so, that thing is freakin fast considering the only mods are the Yoshi 4-into-1 race system, PC3 and air filter.

I presume there were no '08 busas there?
