I was standing by the fence at the entrance to the track, watched him come into the hairpin and crash right in front of me. Fortunately there were no other bikes around him at the time.
He'd been backing it in harder and harder on every lap, just going nuts, clouds of smoke off the rear wheel, etc, claps and cheers from the audience, and that time he was fully sideways even before he was in line with the inside of the hairpin.
He was obviously just going to keep heading sideways straight off the track at that rate. It looked to me like he panicked and grabbed some front brake, because his bike didn't just highside, it flipped right over the front wheel. He and the bike were fully six or seven feet up in the air at one point.
Macktheknife got a photo of him hitting the ground with the bike still in the air, but I don't know if there are any of him and bike airborne or in the process of binning.
Heard mutterings that he ended up with a busted pelvis, leg and wrist. Here's hoping the mad bugger ends up OK, whoever he is.
kiwibiker is full of love, an disrespect.
