I know we don't have a Justice System - but this is truly sickening - that woman have to resort to these measure just to feel safe

A mother paid a security guard to protect her pregnant daughter from an abusive former partner.
The Rotorua mother, who can't be identified for legal reasons, said she hired the guard in November at a cost of $25 plus GST an hour.
The former partner is now being held in custody awaiting sentencing, after pleading guilty to three counts of breaching a protection order.
If he continued to breach the order when he was released, she would hire the guard again despite the cost, the mother told the Rotorua Daily Post.
Patricia Wilson from Community Security Services escorted the pregnant woman to appointments, to town and was on call for several weeks last year costing the family more than $400.
After protecting her, the woman's former partner and his family had stopped harassing her, Ms Wilson said.
"The family got it through their heads that they could not intimidate, bully or abuse someone when they felt like it," she told the paper.
Ms Wilson said the company had had seven of these clients in the past three years and recent media attention had led to several women and community agencies asking her for her business card.

Well done to the family for standing up and not accepting the bullying.

This hits a little too close to home so I won't comment further, but having shelters for abused families is not enough in my opinion. There needs to be immediate and much stronger sentencing for abusive partners, be they male or female.

I agree wholeheartedly, violent offending should NOT tolerated, and need to be dealt with early and with sufficient deterrent to ensure the safety of their targets (as 007XX stated, whether they be male or female.)

Why have we as a society agreed that is acceptable that protection orders are not worth the paper they are written on? And by quietly allowing this situation to continue, we are indeed agreeing that it is ok....... aren't we?

Why have we as a society agreed that is acceptable that protection orders are not worth the paper they are written on? And by quietly allowing this situation to continue, we are indeed agreeing that it is ok....... aren't we?

My theory is that as living environments get more crowded, people loose interest and their sense of responsability for the person next door...

You become immune to the "next sad story", because it happens every day, to people you've never met and will likely never meet. And also you may feel bad for a while, there isn't much you can do about it.

It is a disensitisation of our capacity for compassion, which is a survival response to being able to survive to living into a highly stressful environment such as today's society.

Go into smaller towns, and everyone will generally have known each other for generations, care about what happens in their environment because it affects them directly.

Anyway, that's my theory...sorry for ranting.

One of my younger brothers just came back from Aussie.

One of the jobs he held was as a "minder/bodyguard" for two teenage daughters. The family was over in Aussie on a working holiday and didnt want the Aussie youths sniffing around either of the girls.

Ha - my father appointed himself as my bodyguard - however he followed this guy (I knew him well) cos he saw a blond on his arm and thought it was me. Well he saw more than he bargained for = teach the ole coot.
