No apps for creating music... The one I use is Windows only (they are not making MacOS versions of it and there is no plans to) Not only that but I have no plans on replacing all my commercial sofware to Mac versions... ie Corel which I don't think they have a mac version I could be wrong there...

I do know that a fair bit of my software is multi platform... FileMaker9, Fireworks, Freehand, Dreamweaver, Photoshop etc

Mac has some seriously sexy kit available for it recording wise (you'd wonder why all the recording studios use em...)

what are you doing? live recording with geetar and stuff or other stuff? Cause there are some pretty hot apps i can recommend for either application that are on Mac

It has some seriously cheap kit available too. There's a fairly healthy community of people recording semi-seriously on Garageband - part of iLife, $110 (as is iWeb, quite possibly the worst web design package ever).

I was going to start a rant about Pro Tools but you can get it for a bargain $600 now.

Nah, FrontPage FTW. Arguably people use Word/Excel/Access as web design apps too (gak).

Used iWeb to do a quick/tidy slideshow once... like some of the slideshows BD does

Drag and drop and online in 5 minutes - you don't even have to resize the source images - all automatic - I reckon for amateur applications it's great.

Why would those that are on PC convert when they have re-buy all there software as well...

I already have the PC equal... CuBase, Reason, ProTools, Audition 3, ACiD, and Sonar . However no I don't do much live recording any more (keyboards), and use midi to control iVST plugins synths. The main app I use is FL Studio (which as I said has no Mac Version nor are they plaining... and the main reason I use FL studio, is because it gives you live time free updates... :-)

Personally I don't see any advantage of converting... My PC is setup and is running smoothly for do all multimedia, video, audio and graphics, as well as database and web design, plus all the other normal user stuff

I haven't had a crash in well to tell the honest truth my main system hasn't... nor had a virus in about 10 years. the Mac doesn't do anything any other system can't do...

Yep - most chippies prefer Estwing hammers, some prefer Stanley, doesn't really matter as long as they drive nails.

The software licences I own are not worth changing platforms either.

    Nice. Find.
Every now and then I 'find' something in photoshop too.

However, a man should not type 'OMG'* under any circumstance.

    *Except in this instance.

Presumably in this case it would be FrontPage FTL. To give it credit I don't think iWeb would suck so much if I got over shocking tightarsedness and just signed up for the online service thing. And...

You wouldn't. But if one were starting from scratch...

It has been flakey lately - idisc syncs are failing 50% of the time.

It co-incidently started being fruity about the same time as the latest OS was released.

I suspect the upgrade will fix it.

You get 10gb space and bandwidth now - I post/embed all my pics from .mac on adv and buell groups and here.

I even move big work files around on it. A printer in France is picking up a book I designed at the moment from the file sharing thingy. That all works great.

Hahaha I remember that program, it's a right laugh. Had a blast transcribing and re-writing some of my uni composition assignments into techno dance numbers for shits and giggles Not really ideal for the type of `serious' music I'm into, though. I remember there was a VST plugin marketed specifically for FLStudio which had an amazing, realistic-sounding orchestral sample-set. Tried the demo, almost as good as handing the conductor the score in real life, except with no rehearsals and drop-outs playing out of tune...

BTW FL Studio runs in Linux under WINE with great success. Or at least it was a while ago. I expect Crossover for Mac would do quite well with it (being WINE-based).

I know its an old thread but meh...!!! I don't come here that often

FL Studio is a full fledged DAW and whilst I don't do a lot of direct audio recording in to it, (as stated earlier I do via midi) it can do it I have seen it do a full band... but that was some advance guru stuff... the new live feature think was how it was done... Many pros and big names are using it now. Even if they don't use it as their main DAW many other producers use it via rewire in to something like ProTools, Cubase or Ableton etc

    • I still use it mainly because I don't have to worry about always buying the updates as they are free...
    • I find the workflow easier than some of the other DAWs, (others find it confusing and difficult but meh!)
    • It meets all my needs...
    • I have my own following in the indie music world... whilst I f=could reproduce the same song in another DAW I really can't be bothered to learn another one...
    • It comes with its own synth maker (Flowstone) module so I can make own synths and effects VSTi's
    • Has too many features to mention that are on par with all the other DAW's so no issue
    • I have been using it since version 3.4... (dang thats 8 or 9 free upgrades so far)
    • Native 64 bit
    • Not overly expensive which means I can afford to buy other stuff and plugins

I could go on but meh!!! anyway Thats why I use it...

The wrapped version of FL Studio on the Mac has had limited success but the need to fully port it... but it is written in Delphi
I am hanging out for FL Studio Version 12 and its new features which I don't have to pay for. the upgraded mixer

It has come a long way from its humble beginning as drum sequencer... lol
