Combine Avast with Spybot 1.5 and Comodo Firewall and you'll have a system with pretty decent protection for the princely sum of sweet fanny adams

    TOP TIP
    --------
Spend some peso's on an external hard drive or if you must, a DVD burner (or another PC that's on your network).

    Download http://www.runtime.org/dixmlsetup.exe

Run it, back up your C drive (and any other partitions).

Relax, be smug and be glad you hadn't pissed away your money on Norton Ghost or Acronis like this Scotsman before finding a free alternative that works much better.

Oh, and if the wee Avast email icon keeps doing weird spinny things it's a good indication you've got a wee program on your PC that's telling people you're Dr Umbookoo from Nigeria and have 10 Million spare USD to shove in a super secret Kiwi bank account..

Now pay some money into Boomer's paypal account as he's meinubergeekfuhrer

your antivirus shouldnt be finding much at all ,cause you should be getting viruses
and you should download windows defender as well

im using avg and windows defender
win defender is from the microsoft site
    avg from grissoft
and theres a program like windows defender but its from avg ,its free as well im just downloading it now

sorry i thought it was spybot search and destroy that left shit in the pc but i think its a different program

You shouldnt be finding anything with the antivirus or defender programs
this is because if they find something then the programs let it in ,which means there not doing there job ,which is to stop things before they get there

I've been using a Apple Mac for 18 years - never had a virus or even heard of anyone who did.

If anything is added to your pc from a spy wear program its called adwear
its a small program that collects info from your pc and passes it on
or ads more to your pc
maybe bank details or pin numbers or passwords

Ever wonder if something pops up in the email ,you wonder how did i get that
very likely its been from adwear

    IT is my thing!

The free ones aren't up to much. If you PM me I will send you a free link to a proper one. The updates are quite big though.

If you actually have a problem Trend House Call is an on line scan that will get rid of most pests and viruses. There aint much better around. You may have to google it however if you try (from memory) http://housecall65.trendmicro.com , it should sort you out. Will take a couple of hours though.

    Loads of MAC viruses around.

    You've been lucky.

Safari is geting hit quite regularly.

The best viruses don't let you know they are there. They just extract the data they want without saying thank you.

You probably have had MAC viruses for years!

I know this, I was just questioning what spybot added, as it's supposed to find and destroy adware....

I think I would know it by now .... and that includes 4 years of working as Apple Mac desktop support...

I'm not saying none exist but I've never seen any evidence of one ever.
