I have no sympathy for anyone who fires a weapon at a police officer, shoot to kill, no questions asked.
If they fire a weapon at a normal member of society, same rule applies.
If they are shooting at gang members or other various scumbags, with no risk to innocent folks, give them more ammunition and come back in 20 mins.

Scumdog, best you don't wait to be proved wrong mate, someone will do it just to satisfy a perceived need! lol

I have no problem with the Polis shooting him. I do find it kinda fukt that they had to chase him all the way from Ngongotaha to Waihi (60km?) before being able to stop him. They (allegedly) had up to 17 cars chasing him, including "at high speed through the main street of Katikati" - weren't they able to radio ahead and throw some road spikes in his path or summat? :spudwhat:
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

I understand the vans tyres HAD been 'spiked' hence the chase ended (eventually).

I personally am all in favour of taking a chunk out of the Gubmint's welfare budget and spending it on Police helicopters for all the main centres.

With an M2 in every chopper, for use in cases like this one.

(Reality - theiving low life burglars with firearms and no though of anybody but themselves who will get jack-shit from the judge by way of sentence)

They should have just sent this guy to do the job.

What were they shot with, a Glock or a Bushmaster?

And, seriously, what's with all this "single shot, wait and see if they fall down" nonsense? What happened to double-taps?

That's what I couldn't figure out either. Obviously more fun playing "highway patrol" and having fun with their pistolas. Radio ahead, couple of spike strips, then a big warning sign and then a few concrete breeze blocks in the road. End of chase.

Actually, I take it back...once a lowlife fires just one shot towards other people (especially coppers) then they should be taken out with extreme prejudice. Radio ahead, have them taken out in a hail of gunfire or a well placed sniper shot. Get some taxpayers money back by selling the footage.

I can't understand why the guy didn't start barking like a rottwieller. The best self defense against a cop with a gun.

Have the cops in NZ never heard of the PIT maneuver?

FFS if you can't run a van off the road in 150 kays, there is something way wrong.

Mr Nilsson turned his back 'for a split second' when he heard a single shot.

How do the media find these people???

    (OK, wet morning, bored)
Cue Tui ad for that - how can you believe someone was about to give up? Sorry, but if you wander around with a rifle, you should expect to be shot.

The media probably found this eye witless in the same place they found that person who wasn't even related to that criminal from Australia - but they did share a relatively common surname!

That's because the Taranaki Daily news is to good reporters, what McDonalds is to world class chefs.

    Shite!

I'm surprised they can even write.

Good on the cops for shooting the bastards. Pity they didn't get the opportunity to shoot the 'real ganstas' in Milford last week.

Still I feel sorry for the cops - they will be dragged thru the mud, stress on them and their family when they were just trying to save innocent lives.

Don't police officers get any training these days?
That'd have to be some pretty awesome training to pull that shot off. Mythbusters showed that one to be PLAUSIBLE actually - pretty tricky though given all the glass lenses in the sight deflecting the bullet. NOT an impossible shot 'just a kind of 1 in a thousand even for an excellent marksman'.

The Herald would have a field-day.

"Police don't give fleeing man a chance"

"Family of victim say 'it's not right' "

    "Constable ordered to pay reparations"

"Shot man recalls night of terror"

    Lather, rinse, repeat.
