I am looking forward to the North Island rounds... should be interesting, Go get 'em guys!

Ahh, someone that finally gets it, Chequebook racing (no , not you kick & divvo) versus jokebook racing.
We are actually only there for laughs & stress relief which spills over into here.

I actually see it a little differently... but I suppose that's rich as I am actually talking about you, so my opinion will always be an outsiders view.

I see it as cheque book vs passion.

That passion brings pleasure and fun in doing what you love to do, and how stunning that you happen to be so very good at it as well!

The heart is a very powerful motivator!

I fully agree, & it applies to every aspect of life, Least of all sidecar racing.

Does Bob help you out with that then?

Umm, do you sidecar dudes need your own forum? Somewhere in Pointless Drivel seems appropriate or maybe Rant and Rave?
Maybe a couple of ex mods might have some ideas .....
Keep up the good work, and SCB, thats the best race report I've read!

Pfffft Gav.... this stuff is at least about racing in a way, so way more on topic than most of the crap posted on KB!

This thread is excellent. It provides first hand information from the actual racers about the effort and sacrifices needed to compete at national level.
The sleepless nights before a big event, pressure of qualifying, the mind games that go on between teams...

Power vs Handling (theres no replacement for displacement)

Good luck with your racing this weekend.

um, er, well, ummmm.... yeah, like Garry H said I guess........

You're right though Garry. There are alot of mind games going on at National level.
Sidecar Bob and I joke about our racing alot, but in all honesty, we like to win too if we can. Although, we dont spend what the other teams do to achieve the wins!
We are passionate about our sport, and the passion shows on the track by way of us acknowlegding the crowds with our antics, and also gaining race wins. We certainly do not go out to do the championships to win it, but as Sidecar Bob has stated numerous times before, it's more of a stress relief from our work.
The bonus for us (and also the most rewarding for us) is that we are extremely competitive on a very old, tired, antiquated and overweight machine in comparison to the new LCR and Windle machines now here in NZ.
However, we do not make statements as have been made by others that we will annihilate and smash certain individuals. We just want good, clean racing.
It is humbling though, that other teams have spent bucket loads just to knock us off our perch!
We do put a cap on our seasons racing - a meager $5000!! That's $2500 each!! I would love to know who gets more value for money racing than me and sidecar bob!!! We raced the two South Island meets on 1 rear tyre, as opposed to our main competitor that used 4!! That saved us $1545!! Although, it was on the canvas threads at the end, we still set a lap record on it!!
In all honesty, I know the ex-world champs LCR will smack my ass at Manfield and Puke, and so it should - it should be at least 6 seconds a lap faster than us. Thats what spending $150,000 buys you. But I don't get off on just speed, I love to dice and to outbrake and outcorner, that's what I call racing. If sheer speed was what I wanted, I'd by a drag bike!!

The mind games and BS will continue long after the racing. But I love the saying "The BS stops when the flag drops!".

The most awe I have with the racing is not the adrenaline rush, nor the speed or the dicing, but to see my passenger still on the machine at the end of the race!! How the hell he stays on defies belief!! I can say from my experience, theres not too many people that could do it competently at National level! Most spectators would know that my passenger gets probably the hardest ride out there due to the design of my machine, my style of riding, and also the level of passenger input required on it.
So when you see Sidecar Bob and I bantering and taking the piss out of each other on KB, you now know that I have the utmost respect for his abilities as a passenger. He may be 41, grey haired, and overweight........... but, by fuck is he the man on the side!! That is why we are winning races!!

    Scrivy

P.S. Planna - can you make sure Sidecar Bob keeps up his fitness program! We are gunna need it on the North Island tracks!! Please take another 50-60 for the team.........

As best i can tell (as Bron's LCR blasts past us down the back straight at Levels) he has both power & handling. We on the other hand have a level of skill & determinatoin that only 20 years at, or near the top of the sport can get you.
In our case, the sleepless nights are only because of the shagging (or monkey spanking in Scrivy's case) caused by an excess of the horny chemical released when one races.
Mind games??? Nooooo, we would never stoop to that sort of thing.
As for Scrivys comments about me staying on the thing, its a mind thing, not a physical thing, To stay on the side at that pace, you must not (as a passenger) plan further ahead than the next apex, as it passes under you, then you move to the next issue, whatever that may be.
The fast lap times are strictly down to his ability & our trust in each other.

I try to plan about 2 corners ahead and we're not close to the same pace as you guys

When you get to our pace you will see what i mean, i have no idea how the exit of a corner will pan out as we are entering it, hence, short term planning & focusing entirely on the moment gives more mental fortitude to that moment.
Honestly, this shit takes my mind to a place that can not be reached in any other way that i have yet discovered.
