It occurred to me when someone mentioned maybe getting a sheepskin seatcover for comfort, that mine has sat in the cupboard since its inaugural test ride.

I bought the best sheepskin I could, and I think from memory it was about $85, but I'm quite prepared to take a reasonable offer. Although I trimmed it a little to fit the VFR, it should fit all kinds of bikes. It attaches with elastic straps under the seat, that clip onto the sheepskin using bitey little things.

It's never been wet, spooged on, or any of like that there.

Why am I selling it? Well, it did improve posterior comfort, but I didn't like the feel of it, so couldn't be bothered persisting with it. Besides, if I keep it, I have no excuses for getting the seat customised, which is one of the last things to do on my farkling list.

The benefits of the Rider brand custom seats are well documented and if you have the dosh, that's undoubtedly the way to go. I've never looked back since buying one in 2005. However, your sheepskin seat @ $85 still offers great value for money. I think mine was about $110 made to measure about 5 years ago.

Don't know if you've ever seen them but there's a mid-priced alternative between a sheepskin and a full custom seat and that is the Airhawk pneumatic seat cover manufactured in Oz. I dropped in to see KB'er Fergie at the Whangapoua Store last weekend and he has bought one for his BMW. There's an outer cover and an inner bladder which looks like oversized bubble wrap. You inflate the cells to suit your particular arse configuration

. He swears by it and from memory, one for just the rider is about $240. Looks reasonably neat and is held in place by adjustable straps. They have their own website at:http://www.aussiebiker.com.au/html/airhawk.html.

Yeah, that's what I'd like to do.
I need to do a few more hundreds of killermitters with the vifferbabe on the back though. I'm sure once her arse is suitably punished she'll relent and insist we get one.

Yeah, like I said, that's from memory. I suspect that didn't include the strap thingos (technical term), and I had to cut it to fit myself.

Yeah, I've heard/read about them, but I'd rather just have a custom seat. My seat's not awful, but could benefit from some reshaping.
I nearly bought a Corbin on TardMe after I bought the VFR, but let it go and another KBer bought it for $300. I had a sit on it, and thought it was really dreadful. And apparently Corbin quality is very, very bad (the seats don't usually fit first time and often fall apart. Their customer service is said to be awful too. Beats me why people pay so much for them

Indeed, one of the US Blackbird sites was particularly scathing about the terrible customer service from Corbin.
