Suzuki GSX 250 and the things...

    Howdy

As I have mentioned in previous posts, the changing of gears is too short. I am wanting to make the interval between having to change gears longer, and I definately want to make the 6th gear longer. Possibly keep the first gear (love the pickup) What is the best way to do this, replacement sprocket?! and how many $$Squillions am I looking at?
Does anybody know? Coz I sure as hell don't.

This question is better explained in person with a few cold beers in hand...

Short answer dude ---It can be done but itll cost ya sqillions.
The gearing is inside the gearbox and really needs an expert to sort it out.
I wouldn't even attempt internal ratio changes without a full race team behind me.
You may get better gearing to suit you by mucking around with the size of the rear or front sprocket but to be honest it really doesn't sound like it.

Leave the bloody thing alone! It can only end in tears. Mr Manufacturer often knows best about such things.

I'd argue the toss with ya -Over a couple of cold beers.
Keep in mind the bike isn't just for Nz conditions and has been set up for different countrys for emmission controls and noise atc
That said -I still wouldn't be going into a gearbox to muck around with it

    Hmmmm, beer!

Come on, its a GSX250. How much more "performance" can be usefully wrung out of such a lemon? If its owner likes to nancy about in their gargre pulling things apart and putting them back together again with different components, or polishing hydrocillator flanges, then I guess that's a (marginally) better use of their time than sitting in a maimai by the main trunk line noting the regos of passing locomotives.

    Nancying?

Nancying, I don't know if I should take offence to that or not!

Hell, there is no way I would do the work, I would get a mecho to do it! What I know how to do is change the oil and put petrol in it. As time goes by, I would love to learn how to do my own bike maintenance.

If I were you I would stay well clear of messing around with the internal ratios of a GSX!! If you had an older bike and were interested in experimenting a little, then go for it, but in all reality you should stick to altering the front and rear sprockets as the "performance" of a gsx is unlikely to increase in proportion to the amount of $ you will put into it.

No, leave alone, you can have a play but the Squillions wont go to making gears longer, they will go to fixing the mess that eventuates from playing with stuff that you shouldnt, like hungry lions and banana trees
