Yep--Thats EXACTLY why I say fill by level on glass not by quantity put in.
I remember one old bike -a sidecar unit as I recall -It said 3.5l.
I put in the 3.5l . Checked the oil level -It diddn't even show on the dipstick.
I poured in an extra litre before it showed up to full--Turned out the guy had fitted a deeper sump and an oil cooler that upped the bikes oil capacity

Heh, well it sounds uber simple, I just dont know where the oil filter is or what it looks like, and where the sump plug is.

Also, where do you guys dispose of your oils?

I'll add support to the measurement on the sidecase (in my case 2500) excluding the filter. But how many of you would do the oil and not do the filter? We're not talking about a car here, most of you will have a wet clutch, and all the stuff that comes off it goes into the oil (albeit not much). Most people I have talked to that have had bikes for any length of time replace the oil from 3 ot 5k and do the filter as a matter of course.

Out west you take it to the transfer station. You can dump a few packs at a time (I think I took 5 last time) without charge. They also take old batteries and paint. It is all part of the dangerous substances local body regs I think, they don't charge for collecting this stuff for purely domestic purposes.

Where do you get your oil filters? Just find through your local bike shop?
    What are they worth?

Worst I had was an exhaust from custom chambers, when I got my first back tyre after fitting it they called me into the workshop. The exhaust was overlapping the rear axle my about 30mm. Fortuneately is was just the slant lip single layer section, they had to reposition it with a relocating device that they had handy.

The Auckland Regional Council operates the HazMobile collection system. Useful for getting rid of car/bike batteries too.

The next collection site is going to be at Mills lane, off Oteha Valley Rd Albany, on Saturday 4 December.
