Thread: Something that REALLY bugs me! Caution - RANT ahead :)

Well you'd love the gym across the road from me - Tony Martin's Sports Connection,Tony's a bit of a hard case, but I could do without his heap of shit CF Bedford camper we have been playing with the last few days.He has a board out on the road side where he has adds he changes every few weeks - he got into a bit of trouble with the straight laced religious types in the area when he advertised Nude Aerobics! Got a personal visit from David Hay and told to take it down....but Tony just laughed at the ex Mayor and said 'haven't you got a sense of humour?'.

I doubt it. They'd be buried in a blizzard of complaints and legal action from people trying to prove a point.

Hell, I still hand it out myself. Sorry, girls.
My gym seems to have a few women who want the attention, though. How else does one explain the blonde lass with the tiny waist, big boobs, and round bum who wears clothes that might as well be sprayed-on and whose t-shirt reads "Porn Star"?

They could try. Given the existence of women-only and other gyms that provide mixed memberships, I don't think any such legal action would be successful.

    Arrow Pay attention

I said in my post, that I would still work out in a co-ed environment, but having the CHOICE is my point. And yes, of course some can't resist the urge to give homosexual taunts, and thats fine, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Hell, some may believe that ALL women that go to women only gyms are hardcore feminists and lesbians, who think that there is no use for men in society. And again, that is fine, as to some degree and percentage it may be true (in the same way that SOME men who MIGHT use a men only gym, MAY be homosexual).

But, are you trying to tell me that there are no homosexual / lesbian people at co-ed gyms? And why the hell does that even matter. It is irrelevant, and had nothing to do with my original point.

And, upon further consideration, I guess my beef is with Women Only SECTIONS, of co-ed gyms. I can live with gyms that are in their entirety, women only. But I CAN'T live with co-ed gym's providing for one group, and not the other. That is discrimination. If Les Mills can't afford to make two sections, one women only and one men only, then they shouldn't make one in the first place.

Can ANYONE see the fundemental point I'm trying to make?

Hey personally I couldn't give a shit because I prefer a swimming/aerobics work out than heavy metal lifting BUT -It would be interesting if a bloke -or bettter a group of blokes went to join up at contours or similar.
Isn't it against the law to not allow someone membership on the grounds of their sex? Wasn't that the very equality women have been fighting for?
Come to think of it if contours had a program that suited my needs --Hang on they do -fitness/aerobic, and they were close to me--oops they are

'Should'? 'Shouldn't'? Your problem, Mr Chucker, is that the sledgehammer of media-inflamed sociopolitical opinion has not yet addressed this question. If, for instance, your rantatory remarks were in relation to the question of 'baccy and the smoking thereof, a legislative framework would stand ready to sooth your troubled id.

But since most people really don't give a toss about *this* question, the Invisible Hand of Adam Smith is the only thing governing its nature.

And, as has been pointed out, ain't nobody gonna get rich from a men-only gym.

If you're truly interested in the more fundamental nature of Right, Wrong, and the various shades of inbetweenism, however, the Scottish thread might be more to your taste.

I'm sure that there are plenty at all of them. I strongly suspect Contours of being a surreptitious and decadent lair of lascivious lesbianism, though.

And I'd appreciate it if none of you popped that bubble for me.

    Haha

XJ, I think you're right. But, they probably have legal right to refuse membership to oily, criminal biker types

It would be interesting though, to find out the legal aspect as to whether Contours could refuse membership to a male. I'm sure they could, probably along the lines of it interferring with the product offered to 100% of the other members, or, it being detrimantal to the success of the business. I mean, if I go to a car garage, I can't go and force the mechanic to work on my bike.

Even if you could (re: contours), the minute you walked in the door, ever heard the saying "if looks could kill"?

Forget race relations, humanitarian issues, pollution and all the rest, THIS is something I would be in to challenge/protesting about. Anyone up for a group walk in to the women only section at Les Mills? (that is, assuming it isn't prohibited by law)

Even if they didn't, do you think *any* self-respecting establishment would let used car salesmen in?

The anti-discrimination laws don't provide that sort of loophole. You might be able to claim that you're a private club and so it doesn't count, but that would be about it.

What *are* the relevant anti-discrimination laws? Post and cite the Act in question in the next half hour or so and I'll grab some spare time after I go home later tonight to read through it and post an interpretation.
