Hey Ho, Let's Go! (Yet another noob -- KiwiRat)

    Hey everybody,
I keep getting directed to this forum when searching for various bike related info (Phillip Island MotoGP etc) so I thought it only proper to enlist and introduce myself.
I'm that guy you see up SH 16 on a Black and Red Bonneville T100 annoying motorists. (Sorry........, honest!)
Looking forward to meeting some like minded folk to talk bike shit.

We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
    Wish you were here. QWQ

That factory in the background makes electricity. It's taken at my work which is a Co-Generation Power Station in Penrose. It is an acoustic enclosure containing an industrial version of a General Electric CF6-80C2 jet engine as found on the wing of Boeing's 747, 767 and Airbus 300 and 310 aircraft, amongst others. The main difference is that the shaft extends out of the intake end of the machine, is geared down through a reduction gearbox, and connected to a generator. The exhaust from the engine exits the rear of the gas turbine at 170 MPH (not KPH, remember, it's American LOL)and is used in a Heat Recovery Steam Generator to make superheated steam at 500 deg. C and 90 bar (about 1300 PSI). This team is used to drive a steam turbine which is connected to a generator. There are three of these gas turbines, two of which have steam generators supplying steam to one steam turbine. The third gas turbine simply exhausts to atmosphere in order to pbe able to put the machine on line quickly for times of peak demand (12 minutes from whoa to go).
    Hope I haven't bored ya stupid. It's 4.15 a.m. and I'm at work.

That's real interesting! Welcome and thanks for that info! Sounds like an expensive way to make electricity, though! What do they run these on?
You don't get to be an old dog without learning a few tricks.
