    Engine bearings

    Hi guys,

I'm getting my gixxer750H rebuilt after the bent rod, and i'm wondering what price I should be paying for main and big end bearings.

Even a guesstimate based off other 4 cyl engines would be good.

I've been quoted at $400 smackers for the bearings alone, is that on the money or way up the duff?

    Ta

    yeah, thats not too bad

Are you buying all the bearings for the big and little ends or just two? Cause 400 for two bearings is a bit off, but 400 for (err, counts on fingers) 10 (ran outta fingers) bearings aint that bad

Yeah twenty to thirty bucks a half shell give or take a dollar.
Rude IMO but we don't have to many other options.

I still can't figure how thats $400NZD guys,

I was linked to a site by someone:

    http://alpha-sports.com/supr/1986%20GSXR750/16.htm

and 8 crank pin bearing halves is $88USD along with 12 crankshaft bearings 6 upper, 6 lower (gathered from red numbers on that page 'recommended quantity)

grand total of $180USD thats like $230NZ so even with shipping that still wouldn't be close to $400.

Do many mechanics let you supply parts, if so i'll grab an inventory off him and see if I can't score them from that place.

Id go for it mate. labours bad enough but if you can get the right parts at a good price any reputible mechanic should weer that.
Having singles, myself, it aint to bad.

Damn, quoted $1,900 to sort out. And thats after I brought the engine in out of the bike and without heads or barrels. Cranks OK but 2nd gear is pretty shot too apparently.

The bike only cost $600 more than that, I can't afford it so looks like it's a home job or sell it for parts (dont want to do that!)
