Start putting apples on the lawn so the possum gets used to finding them there (look for possum poo around the place - they are creatures of habit and will tend to stay on their regular walking paths...)

The possum should start finding the apples in a day or two, and when they do hang the apple in the cage and set the trap. Crash bang wallop - the possum gets caught and it's all over (Animal control will come and take it away).
MDU suggestion is what I would do...poisen baiting them is very effective...but will you beat your dog or neighbours dog to the carcuss?? becuase you will kill them if he has a feed!!

Another option is if you have a mate with a jack russel or fox...throw it up in the roof...they sort the fuckers out!!

Possums do put up a mighty fight...I would struggle to believe a cat could take a full grown one.

If only they were that cheap. Next time I think of getting married, I'll just find a woman who hates me and buy her a house.

Fair call - I prefer the "Ouzo, not oozing" rule myself... One says yes... the other... no!

last possom i shot took 7 shots with a 22 to drop it from the tree. my mates were laughing because they thought i was missing.
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

last possum I shot with the air rifle took two shots, .177 (hunting pellet) to the chest, followed by one to the head (once it was on the ground)

No danger of that...it's in my roof...not gonna get a dog or cat up there easily....maybe a rat or two...but I'm happy enough for them to die too.

I've seen those TIMMS traps around...might be the easiest solution for now

They won't die in your roof...when the poisen starts working they will leave your roof and go looking for water..no matter what time of day it is..or if your really unlucky..they may do what rats often do and chew through a water pipe in your roof!! [if they are modern Plastic/PVC type pipes]

Heh... that reminds me of a vineyard I visited in the the Hunter Valley last August. The owner had a pomeranian / fox terrier cross, that was a real terror. If he heard the birds making a commotion, he'd run outside and check it out, as usually it was a brown or black snake in the grass. He'd get stuck into them, bite their heads, then drag them back to the house when he'd finished 'em off.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Anyone ever had the same thing? How did you get rid of them.

I only found one pest control place that seem to deal with them (rentokil) and they are way to expensive.

So if anyone has a great method, or know a bloke - especially in the West Auckland region...some hints would be appreciated.
we've had death possums in our roof... though i think it may have just been birds or rats... who knows.. but I haven't heard them in a while at least!

    Apples

Apples have always done the trick for me, especially with a little peanut butter. so rent yourself a trap, bait it with the apples and scatter the apples around the outside of the trap and give it a night or two. you will have to check it every day though. once its in the trap, either call DOC or just shoot it. in the head. and if your going to shoot something, use a REAL bullet and actually do the job, not just annoy them to death. good luck.

got a bag of poison called baitbusters or something..
nails them good. dont die in the roof
have to go outside and drink some water.
    $20 for a 5 kg bag...lasts for ages
Reckon that stuff would be good for dogs?

We had some new neighbours move in who have a vicious dog they keep tied up right next to our fenceline.. If it barks at me once more i'm gonna do something drastic to it.
