Woman seriously injured in Wellington hit-and-run

A woman sustained serious head injuries after she was knocked off her motorbike in a hit and run accident in Wellington last night.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Calabar Rd and Caledonia St in the suburb of Miramar around 10pm yesterday.

Inspector Paul Jermy said the female motorcyclist was hit by a car which then fled the scene.

The woman, believed to be from outside Wellington, is in Wellington Hospital.

Mr Jermy said the main road to Wellington airport was closed for an hour while the Serious Crash Unit were at the scene.

He said police would like to hear from anyone in the area last night.

I didn't realise that was where this should have been posted - I had a quick look in a few different sections but didn't find anything.

Mods, feel free to delete this thread.

Oh no, the poor lady. How on earth can a person just drive away and leave someone hurt on the street like that?!? Makes me so MAD! I hope that the cops catch the coward asap.

Most importantly, I wish her a full and speedy recovery.

Well, here's the follow-up, as Str8 said, she seems to be a cyclist, not a motorcyclist.
And they have no idea if it was a hit and run or if she just fell off.
Where the original story got its facts from seems a mystery.
    1. There were no witnesses, and nobody knows if it was a hit and run
    2. She's from Seatoun, not "out of wellington"
    3. She's a cyclist, not a motorcyclist.

The only things in the news story that remain the same are that the victim is a female, got head injuries, and it's on the same road. maybe it's a totally different accident, the original story got its facts SO wrong!

Cops in dark over cyclist's head wounds
    30th Jan

A 47-year old cyclist is in intensive care with serious head injuries, but police do not know how she was hurt and whether she is the victim of a hit and run.

The Seatoun woman was found by a passing motorist who spotted her and her bike lying on the roadside of Calabar Rd in Miramar last night.

She was taken to Wellington Hospital ICU.

Constable Shaun Oliver of Wellington Police's Strategic Traffic Unit said police did not know how the woman was injured.

Police would like to speak with anyone involved or who witnessed anything.
