Why? 'cos that's all you cheap-skate tax-payers will pay for!
Now, you need to come to Oz and join the force here. So far I have seen XR8 patrol cars, brand new SS under cover cars, and this cool looking PT cruiser, all shiny, crome mags and all the trimmings.

Only have my TLR, the wife has a new XR6 which is her company car, so I drive that around when I am with the wife. other then that I am on my bike.
Used to have a Subaru legacy, which was used to haul my kayaks and toys around in, untill the engine blew an hour outside of NApier, that was a week before i moved to OZ.

Dinky little Starlet, engine smaller than my XJR's, utterly reliable and incredibly economical. I use it about once a week at most. The rest of the time it gets borrowed and thrashed by my 2 sons.

Also have a BMW which my wife drives and we take away on long trips if I can't find an excuse to take the bike.

I find it hard to get excited about cars these days. I do miss the couple of Triumph 2000s which I had, and the Peugeot 504, not to mention the 107E Prefect. But not the Honda Legend. What a heap of sh*t...

I too am in the market for a good cheap ute (like half the population of Auckland, apparently.) but it seems the phrase has become an oxymoron...

What does it matter, and why?

    Is this a pissing contest?
While in theory I own three cars, none of them are mine in the sense that the bike is. Come to think of it - since that's ours, I can't say anything is mine. :confused2
But I do sometimes drive a 2001 Peugeot 306, a 1990 Peugeot 205 GTi, and a 1989 Subaru Vortex, though usually not at the same time.

I drive the Peugeots because they're excellent to drive, and because sometimes I need to, and the Subaru if I need to tow a trailer or the other cars are unavailable.

If I need to move summat big, I hire a truck, and if I'm skiing I hire a Prado, Exploder, or some other big ManhoodCompensatorThrustingPenisPushTheOtherVehicl esOffTheRoad vehicle.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

I drive a 1990 Ford Econovan. 2.0 liter petrol. Sucks a lot of petrol, slow as shit, and the roof is gunna colapce any day cause of the rust.

At least it still gets me race bike to the track and back. P.S. A double bed easily fits in there!

    No...... Awww......

Anyway - my real question. What do cop cars have done to them? Don't tell me they are a stock standard car off the Holden showroom.

No I'm not after the laser guided missile systems and x-ray cameras you have - just the bits that make them go faster. And whats the top speed? If you say something over 250 - I would find it hard to swallow.
No, you can't borrow it, all YOU have paid for so far is the wiper blades and the inside light bulb - keep paying buster!!

Dunno what all is done to them, chipped, modded suspension I s'pose and a really big acceleremator! Never met anybody who has got one to 250km - the light-bar causes a bit too much drag but 220+ has been done (apparently)

    Subaru and Mazda

Great to see all the MX5's and an Impreza!

I have a 2 litre Impreza (non turbo) cos 4WD is good for towing and the handling is great. My wife has a '91 BRG MX5 and is a member of the MX5 car club. Surprisingly practical as we toured the south island for a month in it.

For me the 'why' explains what I drive - I pick up dead cars that my customers walk away from as being too expensive to repair....I'm stupid enough to think I can repair them cheaper...in reality I spend more on them than the customer did.

My shop hack and general runabout is a 88 C22 Nissan Vanette diesel, this is one of the few vehicles I have gone out and bought because I wanted one - I had been carting my trials bike in my 1987 Escort van,so when I got rid of that looked for a small van to set up as a bike hauler....I kinda like the turd machine, gunna be damned hard to kill....but I'll be crippled and deaf before then.

My personal wheels is a 1989 Pajero, long wheelbase turbo diesel - I had 2 of these things dumped here last year with blown motors,so picked them up for $500 each, the motor has had a full recondition,no stone unturned (cept injectors....I like the smoke) With all the stuff I've done to it at customer rates it'd be up to $10,000 to do,but much less for me of course,I get trade on parts, cheaper labour,no GST and had a doner vehicle.I like it,a dirt car for a dirt biker.

My wife drives a 1990 Diamante, another dead one from my shop. It's the very top of the line 3 litre with every doo dad and leather interior, can you believe these things were $90,000 new! I had a bit of trouble finding an engine...but one of my suppliers said...we've got one here, but can't get it going, every thing has been check, but it just won't run,you can take a risk on it for $450.So I took it - it had new belts, tensioners, water pump, looking down the ports I see 10 new inlet valves, didn't look at the exhausts, but expect the same - this thing has done a belt and bent valves, but is a non runner.Trying to do a leakdown test I had trouble figuring out the firing order (123456),even with the valve covers off - then I found out why...the cams were switched around! Cams in the right places and shes a runner.Spent some extra dumping the air suspn for coils, but this thing is a gem on a trip, and I don't believe how well it handles on a gravel road,it'd clean me up on a bike no worries!

Just done a 1993 Nissan Laurel for my younger daughter, did an engine transplant, the import engine had a new genuine belt and tensioner and water pump.Gunna be a nice car for a teenager.I sold it to her for $2000,she doesn't realise it's cost half as much again to put on the road, bloody kids, you just can't stop giving...

I did a Charade GT Ti turbo for the elder daughter as a courier car,but it was taken out by a bus and she has a March now.Pity,I put a lot into that one, even painting it red for the company colours. One hell of a performer,a 4 wheeled motorcycle.

Her boy friend drives another one of mine,a 1993 Telstar waggon, picked up as cancellation of a $500 debt.At 330,000km I thought the motor was a dead duck, but was absolutly prestine inside,so popped in rings and bearings, slapped on a brand new $700 cyl head,at 380,000km it's back here for a head gasket after he cooked it when the heater core blew.

I also have a 1984 Telstar Giha, this is due for a flick, but the daughter is still using it as I have the Laurel in for some panel work - lucky because it was hit last night in the city.Perfect mechanicly, plush Giha interior, looks like shit.

    Ok,so I got a few cars....it's what I do for a living.

had one (AW11) early model. plenty of grunt . light as anything. big fat tyres for something so small, awesome brakes.yep it did get a little light in the front but only on the gravel roads, easy fix spin the back tyres get the thing sideways and it would turn, still not too easy to control on steel belted road tyres though. bloody brilliant on the seal specially in the twistys, best fun car i ever had .

got a grandads car now cause i hate driving them now. i bought my maxima cause its got a 3 litre, automatic, and most importantly cruise control (yes it is possible to drive with your feet up on the dash) it hardly ever gets washed, cause i hate that too, but its bloody comfortable and suprisingly cheap on gas and nothing has broken on it in three whole years.

    Too many

Mitsu Legnum 2.5 V6 AWD - sounds good but a bit heavy. Great wagons.
Toyota Hiace 2.4 Van - done over 300,000kms and still going strong.
    Series 1 Mazda RX7
Mitsu Lancer Evo 6 (for sale!)
    The Scoot
Someday we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

I have a 92 Prelude VTEC. Goes rather well and has been lowered with 17" rubber band wheels. Unfortunately ground clearance is rather low and when towing my trailer with dirtbike the off road sections become rather challenging.
