But after all the Police is a govt. organisation so they can't spend too much. And NZ isn't exactly a "rich" country on an international scale. So...... hey seen a lot of coppers here driving around in brand new black (un marked) SS sedans - lucky bastards.

By the way whose stupid idea was it to insist that they drive unmarked cars yet wear full uniform? So anyone who knows what to look for can spot them? And the cars are super easy to spot too.

I mean they still have ID don't they? Or is the uniform for the ladies..............

Haven't had to fix anything major on mine and the only thing coming up is new front rotors. Had it for nearly two years now.

Heh well its only got 65,000km on it, and should be selling soon, so it can be someone elses problem . Fathers one has the same k's and no problems either. Alas, he wants a remuera tractor again *sigh*. Im trying to talk him into a Subaru Outback or something, some kind of compromise. A bit of ground clearance, but without being a 4WheelDick.

Saw the Top Gear video about the Outback - they gave it a very good review.
And it is a very good car. Matter of fact - I think it would be the best car for kiwi conditions. All factors considered.

Saw the Top Gear video about the Outback - they gave it a very good review. And it is a very good car. Matter of fact - I think it would be the best car for kiwi conditions. All factors considered. Unless your dad needs a Soccer Mum Status Symbol to navigate dangerous off-road terrain . And why not some people ARE into that sort of driving Then go and get that Land Cruiser or Pajero or Lexus or Merc, etc, etc whatever you rich people drive.

We used to have a '96 Toyota Surf, 3L Turbo Diesel. That was a good beast, and although it spent a lot of time on the road, it did take us up Mt Tarawera a couple of times, but it was mainly used to cart a lot of gear around, parents are trampers so they liked being able to abuse it and just biff stuff in the back.
Dont need one again though. Its hard trying to talk them around, specially when mum wears the pants. hah.

Ah right. Yes. Its completely to do with the cylinder layout.
Start with porsche, this is what is also refered to as a boxer type engine. Take a V6, and squash it flat, so you have 3 cylinders pointing to the left, and 3 to the right, directly opposing each other.

Inline and "straight" is usually refering to the same thing. Just like your typical 4cyl motorcycle engine, thats an inline four (although there are a couple of V4's out there).

As for the W engine configuration, "apparently" its like two lots of cylinders on top of each other (in V's), but I havent actually seen any kind of scheme myself so I dont have a clear picture in my head.

The bosses can be pretty wierd at times (almost like a certain boss/lawyer mentioned in this thread) and have said "we will give you plain cars so you can be sneaky but you have to wear the uniform and your glo-jacket and you are not to be cunning and hide the car behind bushes etc etc " WTF,
It's like do your job but with one hand tied behind your back???
To make it worse they say "you guys with the marked cars are expected to get as many tickets as the guys in the plain ones."

Nothing like a level playing field eh? :confused2
