CB50j - yes they do exist!

I bought two CB50j's a while back on trademe. I tried finding out info on them the old fashion way (calling up local honda dealers) and had no luck at all. One even asked if I was pulling his leg because he'd never heard of anything like it. (And he obviously is the world authority!)

I've got one of them running and the other is being rebuilt into a mini cafe racer. I'd love to know what year they are and whether it is worth restoring the runner back to street legal. I think they are late 70's models but not certain about this. The main distinguishing feature that I have noticed is that they have cable operated front disc brakes, using a thrust bearing and self adjusting system.

If anybody has any knowledge of such bikes or any information related to these little things I'd love to hear from you. Any light that can be shared on these would be of great assistance.

Considering your post is a year old, you have probably found out all you wanted to know. Anyway, I have a 1978 CB50J, my father bought it new to commute from feilding to palmerston north. I do have a shop manual for them if you would like any particular technical information about the bike. You can still buy many parts for them, I purchased new piston, rings, headgasket etc from the local blue wing dealer. If you ever decide to scrap either of them please let me know, i'm still after some parts I can't get new (Flywheel for one).
