Yet another old bastard returning to motorcycling (flyingcrocodile46)

    Hi all,

I have recently (a couple of years ago) returned to bikes after a 24 year break.

I had a Honda CB125 in 1975 when I was 15. Then a Honda XL 175 from 76-77 then Moved to Aus and went bike-less till 1980 when I bought a Suzuki 78 GS1000 which (after a 6500km 2.5 week Aussie TikiTour) I taught to fly and later rebuilt, only to sell in late 82 before coming back to NZ.

I have sort of been haunted ever since, by a semi regular recurring (but with different props) dream where I would walk into my garage (the main changing prop) over to a corner that I couldn't recall noticing before,... and there she was... My GSThou in all her resplendent glory.... I can't adequately explain the feeling of elation that I would feel.. but I never once got to ride it because my fucked up subconsciousness would always find some pressing matter to attend to and I'd end up forgetting about the bike or trying to manipulate the dream back to the bike, only to end up frustrating myself into waking up with a bad taste in my mouth and an increased awareness of my incompleteness. (spellcheck says "incompetence or impotence" is the correct spellink)

Being a tad slow it took 23 years before I finally decided...'Fuck that'.. and bought a 83 Honda FT500 off 'TradeMe' in Xmas 85 and soon had her 20yr old rubber low-siding me around a roundabout.. (as dipshits are wont to do). I didn't ride as much as I would have liked cause I felt like I was ringing her neck whenever I started approaching 100kph. I sold her to a collector last month after another 'on line' purchase of a perfectly decent looking 1985 Suzuki GS1100 shaft driven chunk of steel hard 'dream-tease busting' reality , complete with a nearly whole parts/project twin sister.

I am loving riding again but don't have any mates with bikes, so will be looking forward to catching up with those of you who attend the ATNR's.

    Colin

    (Edit)... forgot the obligatory funny....

The views expressed above may not match yours - But that's the reason my Dad went to war - wasn't it?
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, .... but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out,... shouting "man, what a ride"!!!

Ah 48! I remember it well...

Well okay so I'm only a couple years older, but still young at heart. Compared to a few on here, we're still only spring chickens!

Welcome to another returnee! I got back into biking on '03 with a '89 GSX-F600. Last Feb. I got my Missus back on pillion again after 30 years and we are having a ball together on the Boulevard.

Got any pics of your bike? Obligatory on here!

The only old motorcyclists seem to be the ones that stopped in thier younger years.

They are either too pussy to ride one now or got topped off when younger.

Good on ya for returning to the dark side

Not so fast sonny, some of us have never stopped riding and never will. If you can say in 30 years time that you have always owned at least one bike and ridden it regularly (most days), then I'll start listening to you. Until then, get some time up!

Dear oh dear here we go again..........

I know plenty of people in their early-mid forties who (like me) have had a running bike in their shed since they were 16.

As for being 'too pussy' - you need a bit of that when riding if you want to make it to your mid 40's.

EVERY day above ground is a good one. every day spent in the saddle of a bike IS EVEN BETTER.
