Yay Grahame, what a wonderful milestone for you guys to reach! She will be fine you know, I suspect she is a lot like my youngest in attitude. She walked out the front door her first day of school to catch the school bus, and would not allow me to take her......LOL.

Yep, that is the beginning of the end....
Aint that the truth, I remember being reduced to knowing nothing when my kids started school.

No probs...she just needs Teacher Aides for mobility from wheelchair to chair and for toileting etc. She is actually ORRS level 7 which is high because she is not mobile.

    Mentally she is onto it.............

Make sure the fuckers are properly trained. We have an abysmal record with special needs in NZ. Lack of training (if any) and no equipment.

She is not going to a special needs school. She just needs teacher aides for mobility when she is not in her powered wheelchair...(for Hitcher). Mentally she is has the same advantages as any other kid, if not more as kids with her condition tend to be very bright.

Hear, hear. My firstborn starts uni this year too! The son (ripper roo 92) is in year 12 this year. Boy the time just flies; only seems like the other day when they were both littlies being taken to school for that first day!
Well done to you both - so exciting, and dad, your heart will just burst with pride hearing all the things she'll be telling you about in her day now.

Thanks! I'm a teacher aide based in a Learning Support Centre along with 12 others. We are all trained and well resourced.
There is plenty of training courses available for T/A's.
