    Learning to drive here

When you learn to drive here, are you taught to check your mirror before changing your position on the road?

Reason I ask.. I nearly got squashed by some tattooed fuckwit in a van just now. I asked him if he'd checked his mirror before swerving to knock me off. Apparently not, and that's the sort of thing I should be doing for him (or words to that effect)
It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.

Everyone, know matter what vehicle they may be in or on, should check their mirrors or at least look over their shoulder, before changing lanes or pulling out, to make sure that the way is clear for them to move over or out.

I do believe that it is stated somewhere in the road code as well.

    Preferably both.

They don't teach you anything here...you don't ever 'learn to drive' in NZ!so that'll be part of the problem
