Of course we are. And that is why Feb 6 has to change. It has become the symbol of divisiveness. And that is wrong.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Christ I know how that feels - I had a job in Dallas once and headed off one night to some mall that was having sales for some thing or other for the troops at home. 30mins into my shopping I realised I was the only white face in any direction for quite some distance (ie further than I could see) - it was quite an experience. One kind soul asked me - 'Sir - are you lost?" When I said no he smiled and gave up on me...

It was fun really - no trouble but I got sick of people staring at me.

Another trip I ended up in some Malaysian kampong at 3am with a whole lot of jokers I was supposed to be working with 10 miles away any I was definately the only euro for miles - that was fun too but they thought I was freakin nuts not taking sugar in my plastic bag full of tea....

Hey isn't the protocol that being a day off we should be riding so who's coming with us on this ride North Range Road - Tangata Whenua and Tangata Tiriti all welcome - but best you have a gravel capable bike?

Shell Mana 8am - be there to keep your mana intact.
    Cheers

I also think there's a lot you should be proud of here. And it's sooo much more than the blow hards that appear tomorrow - and then slink back into the background of what is a well cool and tolerant place.

Concur. I always find if I get to know someone first, I can really get to dislike them more intensely on a personal level, not something irrelevant like skin colour.

Just to hijack a bit more, there was a very funny "30 Rock" where Liz Lemon had a date with a black guy, and it was clear that their personalities were incompatible, but she felt compelled to continue the relationship because she didnt want to be seen to breaking up with the guy because he would think and people would assume it was because he was black and she was white.... I like that show, though my favourite characters are Jack Doneghy (Alec Baldwin) and Kenneth.

Holy fuck. Thats a shame. just about every Maori I know doesn't deal with such bollocks. Some Asian students I hosted experienced a bit of racism. Mind you being white I have been stereotyped as not being able to play basketball or dance. However, they were right on both counts.

Sorry to hear there are some bigots up your way though mate.

Hey jimbo your not a member of the Keep Whitby White, aka Whitby Residents Association are ya?

They always worried when Omapere Street was pushed through to the Tangata Whenua side of Porirua, but in the end the worry was ill founded and the Maoris never came, but the migrant Asians did.
    Cheers

Don't you worry mate we got plans for them Asians. They're going to be shaft fill for the wind turbines. And we got spotters at the top of Omapere checking on the Maoris. But what did I see the other day? Well Holy Jesus nothing but god damn Somali. Damn skinnies in my Arian paradise.

Scary to think that some folk think like that for real.
