What determines whether you are still a Maori or a Kiwi....I mean my Daughter was born here so she is a New Zealander not British as I am....as his her Mum.

I mean if your Mum is say Maori and your Dad is a New Zealander are you still Maori.

My partner is Nigerian, she has 2 kids born here and they are New Zealanders despite being black.

This is not to be offensive, just I have always wondered about blood ties.

For one day actually celebrate the diversity of racial and religious types we have in this great country.
FOR JUST ONE DAY be as one people -white black yellow or green (thats Paul in NZ after a night on the port)
Jeez the friggin Auzzies and even the Yanks can do it
The blanketty blank Aussies can't do it, they hate wogs and wops with good reason. The yanks are still latent Ku Kux Klanners and rightly so. Uncle Helen, when quizzzed on the outflux of New Zealanders to Australia, stated that we are replacing them with skilled migrants at a greater rate. As if we need more taxi driving brain surgeons who pray to mecca. What she failed to say was, that they are jumping the "ditch" to get out of the clutches of her socialist/dictatorial gubbmint, who have systematically stripped the rights of the resident population, yet allowed cavalcade speeding, home invasion, abolution of freedom of speech, prevarication by parliamentary officials, selected memory lapses of same and obfuscation, also by same to reign supreme. Ignoring this for "just one day" is a no go. Only when New Zealanders have the intestinal fortitude to oppose these restrictions will things improve but with Dastardly Helen importing more aliens to ensure they vote for her (HIM) (IT) the war is lost and the Ngati Maori will be just a distant memory, albeit a sour one. Wake up Kiwi's, stand up for the sake of your offspring. Why do so many South Africans reside in YOUR country, because they were disenfranchised from their own by your apathy. Being descended from a German family who funnily enough ended up here via South Africa i read your post with some interest.Your explanation of Hitlers success is amusing but far from the truth.

Depends on how you can manipulate the benefit to suit you circumstances Not refering to your situation in any shape or form, rather the "BRO" mentality with their "Cuz/Auntie", Doleing (no pun intended) out the dosh. That is blood ties, and the courts have an audit trail longer that the tail, of Hayley's comet where funds have been misappropriated under that same guise. Welcome to NZ the Clean Green democracy. Stay and help resurrect us if possible.........goes into funk and flagellates self with old chain.

I know that 8,000 more NZ residents went to Aussie compared with previous year, however, stats can be misleading.

A lot of people immigrate to NZ as it is easier than getting into Aussie, wait for NZ citizenship and then bugger off so a lot of this increase could be pre-meditated rather than due to policies.

Some very sad people in this thread.

    • Waitangi day is what you make it. I choose to make it a celebration of my participation in this great country.
    • Ignore the press and the whinging pricks on both sides of the fence-just for today.
    • 'Hating people because of their color is wrong. And it doesn't matter which color does the hating. It's just plain wrong.' - Muhammad Ali [Thanks Big Dave, eloquent as always]
    • N.Z is an immigrant nation. Get over it. Folk from other 'non white' [or Maori] countries are people with similar dreams and aspirations as yourself. Love them-support them.
Get on your bike and ride for the day, stick a smile on your face, tip your hat to those you meet, Have a barbie tonight, sup a Bevvy, marvel at life and in the words of a former mentor "Be thankful you don't live in a concrete pipe in Bangladesh and hate your neighbours" cos frankly folk's Aotearoa is fuggin' awsome.

Being an immigrant I am honest when I say that Wiatangi Day has no meaning to me, but understand it does for others.

For me I struggle with the fact that something signed over 150 years ago is still being debated when NZ and the world have moved on beyond the 'Treaty'.

I know the Maori feel they have lost out on land and from what I have been told some of it has merit, however, man has for 1000's of years fought over land, some lose, some win and then it swings around again.

I guess the question is are Maori overall worse off now than they would have been had the Brits not landed? The Maori have tribes who fought eachother so how do we know that they would not have had battles over land without any outside interference.

Enjoy the day for what it is,a day for shopping, shit ya all seen the ads for 20% off this,40% of this, these are from the multi corp outlets, not owner operators, but force the little guy/guyess to open to compete, remember NZ favourite hobby is shopping.

I appreciate the day off,yes it's part of our history good or bad, that depends on who you are or what has been ingrained into you by parents etc.

As an aside with guys riding today a question for you,if when riding, a bike is stopped on the roadside, how many maori would stop only for a bro, likewise how many whites would stop for white only,NONE at all,we would stop for anyone on roadside,colour-ethnic wouldn't enter the fray.Sure the politics of the day are abounding, but if all you want to do is moan about who's fault is it,get a life, there are faults and it isn't just one day.

The part I hate is it happened generations ago,why didn't the English sort it out around 100 yrs ago, shit both maori and white fought side by side in numerous wars, remember gallipoli, following the stuffed up plans of motherland, numerous ww2 stuff ups,all this in the name of sovereignty and crap, and still QE is not amused.
Hello officer put it on my tab

Don't steal the government hates competition.

You must spread some reputation around ...
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.
