Triumph rider taken out by dork in Carterton on Sunday....did you see it

My mate got taken out by a twit farmer with a trailor load of sheep on the back on Sunday. Who told the cops I can't see out my mirrors cos the trailor is so wide..so he just pulled out to do a U turn as my mate came up beside apparently

Anyway my mate recalls being told (by a nurse) that a welly rider called Steve, took the time to pop into the hospital to check on him but wasn't allowed in to see him.

The news is not tooo bad. No broken bones just lots and lots of brusing and a very annoyed fella who was looking forward to two weeks of riding holiday soon.

Get this though!!!!! The driver of the cage didn't even come over to check that he was ok or say sorry ...and he was left on the road a long time while the various support people arrived to take care of him

    grrrrrrrrr
I hope he gets charged with careless use causing injury.
It is a legal requirement to have suitable mirrors for such a trailer.

Glad your mate is ok, hope he heals well.

    Not good, eh.

Always, always assume that a car pulling to the left or slowing for no apparent reason is about to do a U-turn or turn right. Never go around another vehicle until it's patently obvious that it has no possible reason or ability to take you out. Particularly if you haven't caught the driver's eye in his mirrors.

Best of luck to your mate with his recovery!

The cage driver left the scene??? That's hit and run, criminal charges rather than just a driving offence.
EDIT: Oh, nah, the driver didn't leave the scene, just didn't come over and see or anything.

Thanks. Unfortunately he wasn't able to anticipate this as the guy was parked on the side of the road, no indicators warning of his intention move out, nothing! Mate reckons even if he'd been in a truck he couldn't have avoided him the way he swung out and was lucky to avoid being pushed into the oncoming traffic...just had to wear the ute instead.

That could be Steve of RAT (Riders Assn of Triumph) Wgtn co-ordinator.
The Rat group were on their monthly ride on Sunday

Thanks will follow that one up, if I can locate some details for them. Seems there were actually two bikers that it happened right in front of as they were waiting to give way to my mate...he thinks 'Steve' was one of those two

Sounds a damn fine idea to me! Go MR. Poos!

And oh in answer to someones earlier comment - the cage driver didn't 'leave the scene', just made no attempt to check on my mate or apologise to him as he was conscious and lucid the entire time as he lay there screaming in agony. All the by standers were great though...they assured him regularly that they had the buggers details and the cops were on their way...so he just went back into mind numbing pain land and doesn't remember too much from there.

Sorry to hear about the Triumph rider going down because some whinging cocky was to lazy to put some decent mirrors on his 4 wheeler. The bastard wants shooting with a ball of his own shit!!

Get well soon matie you'll be back on deck soon I hope. Lucky nothing was broken aye!!

I suppose this accident will go down as a motorcycle accident in the ACC ledger so they can keep the levies up on the registration. We pay $160 odd as it is!!!

Ah well never mind according to 3 news tonight NZs farmers are all fucked cos of the dry weather! Apparently there are gonna be alot of 2007/2008 Bmws and Mercs up for sale as the poor old farmers will have to trade down to a Holden senator to cover the cost of extra food for the stock so the evil dairy empire Fonterra can fuck us all to the tune of $14.00 for a block of cheese!!!!
No doubt the government will have to give the farmers all a huge tax cut and half a mil each of taxpayers money to tide them over till the rains come!!!
No wonder he was'nt looking behind him he probably thought the repo men were coming!!!!

I spoke to one of the riders that helped on the day. Didn't know his name, but he told me he'd helped until the medics arrived, that the guys bike was safe in the fire brigade's garage and that his wife was a nurse (or worked) at the hospital. He was going back to the hospital later to see how the guy was. Nice guy.

I asked the St Johns guy later in the day if he'd heard anything, but he hadn't, which was good, 'cause he'd have only heard if the guy was to be transfered to Wgtn.

Sometimes there's feck all you can do but grit yer teeth and take the fall eh? Glad he's not too bad, still, fucked his holliday.

Yes very good people - just the kind of people you want around you if the shit goes down.

Sounds as though everyone who helped did a fantastic job taking charge of the scene, managing the traffic and people, calling in the right authorities and comforting and assuring him that he could switch off and just relax and concentrate on pain management until the good drugs arrived

Surprises me but the nurse who was in the car following behind him and saw the whole thing, apparently had to yell at someone to not remove his helmet or move him. Amazing to me that this is as unknown as it seems to be...

Anyway he is in good spirits and well, blaardy lucky - heart skipped a few beats hearing my mate had been hit by a car!
