    It's not too bad.

I lived in Hokitika for 11 months last year.

    It rains, alot.

I lived in Greymouth for a year, I miss the place. Good dry days are almost celebrated over winter, totally great place if you love hunting, kayaking, rock climbing or general outdoor pursuits. You get used to the rain, and there are some fantastic roads in every direction. If your single, picking up female backpackers is great sport (as some of the local prey can be lethal if cornered) and theres no shortage of good bastards about.

I did have 2 neighbours die from drinking meths though, and its been 10 years since I lived there.

What sort of job are you thinking of taking?

Greymouths a bit bleak at times, I'm sure there are some nice days but be prepared for lots of rain.

Question for those that have lived there - how long till the locals started being friendly?

About 4 generations. More people are moving down that ways so its not as hard core as it used to be

I was born in Greymouth and grew up in Hokitika. Greymouth is a hole, but is only 20 minutes from Hokitika. If the job is in Greymouth, live in Hokitika and commute.

Hokitika is without doubt the better town to live in

No good deed goes unpunished...Leakproof seals-will...selfstarters-will not...Interchangeable parts-won't...In order to get a loan u need to prove u dont need it!!
