Manfeild surface already shit...

Was at Manfeild today. Thought you might be interested to know that the sweeper has already started to tear up into marbles. From what I saw, they havnt let it set properly and its tearing away on the racing line.
Following other bikes, I got showered by bit of track, and once of the track you could rub a finger across your back rim and pretty much scoop it off.
Am very dissappointed!

I knew it was too good to be true when I heard it had been resurfaced.
Should be interesting for the nationals....

A while back I caught a bit of what turned out to be an excellent show on the redevelpment of Indianapolis Motorspeedway. Over the course of a few years they had to somehow keep the track open for the big money earners of NASCAR and Indy cars, while redeveloping the infrastructure, AND building a new track suitable for F1. They also got a nasty suprise when they realised the time required for the track surface to cure and the conditions required to allow it to cure.
They gave a great insight into the different shear forces (horizontal rather than vertical) applied to a race track compared to a normal road, also some good stuff on the development/trialling of crash barriers.
Pity the Manfeild crew didn't see the same show......

Funny that they had a big drifters meeting on Saturday. Wonder what else has been on the track thats hard on the surface.

Bikes should get to hire the track cheaper in this age of user pays as they don't fuck it.

It's typical NZ lack of ability to do stuff right anymore. Where we used to be the best at a lot of stuff, but we've fallen way behind.

Don't blame the drifters, they're way less hard on it than the touring cars etc....

Next time I'm over there I'll ask Sue when the deterioration started as it was ok for quite some time after it was first put down. Maybe the first really hot meeting dealt to it.

Roads these days are falling to pieces alot faster [and I asume the tracks will too]...its the quality of the tar and like products that we are getting now for roading I would imagine [and I would be happy too be corrected if I'm wrong]...and as far as I'm aware I think most of it comes from singapore and some from austrailia...with oil prices being high?? Tar and like products being pertrolium/oil based?? I wonder if dilution of the product is happening?? the aggregete hasn't changed!!

Possibility meh bee?

Tar gets diluted with kerosene. Its also used to flush the equipment.

You can get special high temp tar/asphalt but it costs alot more.

Whoever did it may have tendered a price then done the job as cheaply as possible who knows

i was down there the week after they had completed it geting in sum laps and the surface was mint smooth grippy ?? if it was good then why would it be falling to bits now?? DRIFTERS!!??

breaking traction like the drifters do doesn't place as higher load in a track surface as holding traction on the limit of adhesion does! a huge precentage of forces are lost on the surface once traction is lost..the weighted load of the vehilcle at max traction + some engine torque transfer [tractive torque] places the highest stress on the tyre and surface...drifters are harmless till they drag dirt on to the track or do static burnouts,etc heavy vehicles or vehicles with lots of downforce [noth with a bit of grunt] will do more damage to a surface.

How are the injury's healing bro?? you have a idea when your going to be back on the track?
