    Route Option Two

Essentially the same as option 1 but we head down state 22 to Waingaro cut through to Raglan, and then back to Pirongia via the Raglan Divi. Might be a bit long but some very good roads.

    Route Option Three

For those that came along last year we can do the trip home in reverse. Head down SH1 on to SH2 turning off at Maramarua (sp?) on heading through the forest on to the Tahuna Ohiniwai Road to Morrinsville to Cambridge via Scottsman's Valley Road. Then we can head down either side of the Waikato river (personally I would head down the eastern side via the old Taupo Road) to the western access and then on to Turangi.

Of course all these roads are the long way round but is far more Motorbike friendly - Corner carving! However we are open to suggestions on different roads.......
    Option one.
SH1 is purgatory. I quite like the rest of it.

    Option 2
I love this route. Not sure what you mean by the Raglan divi. Is that down the western side of the Waipa from just before Whatawhata?
An extension of this could be hang a left towards Kawhia, south of Pirongia. Left before Oparau down through Hauturu, Kinohaku, Te Anga, Piripiri, Waitomo Caves, back on to main drag at Hangatiki south of Otorohanga. I think about 70kms extra.
(from Peter Mitchell's Great Escapes Fish and Chip run.)
From Te Kuiti instead of going to Taumaranui go left onto SH30 through Bennydale to Mangakino, then Whakamaru SH32 (Western Access) and on to Turangi. Far less traffic on SH30 than SH4 and a great road.

    Option 3
SH1 is boring and dangerous. Going out through Papakura, Hunua Rd. and Happy Valley should bring a smile. Come out on SH2 just before Mangatawhiri. SH2 through Maramarua then right to Okaeria, Wairenga, down eastern side of Lake Waikare. Turn left into Tahuna Rd.towards Te Hoe, and so on...
or:turn right after 3kms down Rutherford Rd. 10kms right into Orini Rd. to Taupiri then Ngaruawahia over the railway tracks and on to fame and fortune.

    So many options.
I do like the idea of staying off major highways. From those registered there aren't any cruisers coming which would favour those roads.

I hear the Paraparas calling....could meet up with you on the way...

I was thinking to maybe leave the Paraparas for the way home as it may also be part of the Sunday ride. (Although having done the Para's twice this year already, my preference, should we do the Forgotten Highway, would be a return via the Awakino Gorge). We were thinking more likely Kimbolton-Mangaweka or Vinegar Hill on the way up (depending on the weather)

On that weather note, I note the rain on Sunday is to come in from the west.

We might need to consider some other eastern alternatives for Sunday, but unfortunately at 980Km & 795Km, these Rusty Rider delights will probably be a bit long for most 'Gatherers'.

Just did some km comparisons and option 2 and 3 are almost identical, about 340km each, we can decide on the day dependent on were the weather is coming from.
