    Hinny report & pics

    Busta Gut 2008

A Kiwi Biker rally at Turangi, Queen’s Birthday Weekend 2008. The plan was to ride down on Saturday, socialise that night. Go for a group ride or rides on the Sunday. Hot pools Sun. night and ride home on the Monday. I decided to go down on Friday afternoon so that I could catch some trout to feed the gang on Sat. night.

Met up with Tide at the Autobahn on Friday afternoon and rode off down SH1. Traffic already building for the long weekend. Beautiful weather but I thought a sad route. Little better after we left the main drag but soon Deon’s left eye developed a mind of it’s own and this made life rather difficult for him. Pit stop required at the Otorohanga’s Unichem Pharmacy for Tide and Haddad’s famous menswear store for me. We decided to hang a leftie at Te Kuiti and head for Whakamaru. The temperature was starting to drop rapidly and light rain began to fall. Ran out of that and had myself a little blast through the twisties on dry roads. Poor Deon was now seeing two corners and having trouble deciding which was the right one to take. Night descended along with the rain and I foolishly decided I didn’t need to stop and get out my wet weather gear and pressed on instead. Finally arrived at Turangi Cabins feeling a mite less comfortable than I would have liked. Chanceyy was there already and her warm greeting and warm hands were appreciated. I was sorry I forgot to use the camera at this point. When push came to shove I played the ladies blouse card and decided not to pitch the tent tonight – that could wait for the following two nights.

After a trip to the Supermarket we then cooked up a storm and were both happy to have some hot ‘n spicy spaghetti in us after an appetiser of crackers, cheese, pate and dip. A cheeky little Aussie red was quickly quaffed with relish.

My morning constitutional took me around the Heavyweight Motor-homes who were here last year at the same time, with a few hardy souls out and about enjoying (?) the frost, and then down to the town centre to get a trout fishing licence.

After breakfast I rigged a rod, donned waders and boots then headed for the river. Being a beautiful blue-sky day, on a long weekend, in early winter, a good number of hopeful fishers were on the river. In very short order I had found about twenty good fish and formulated a plan to make myself a KB legend by being able to feed the multitude on fat fresh fish. Unbelievably.... I didn’t manage to touch one. - Well maybe I would have better luck in the evening.

Over the rest of the day people trickled in with groups arriving from Auckland, New Plymouth and Wellington.

With an entrance that elicited great guffaws and much ribbing, Pete and Wendy (Busa Pete & Mrs Busa Pete) arrived with the bike on the back of the Ute. It was good to see plenty of boxes of beer and a large bag containing the ‘liquor cabinet’ being unloaded before the Busa was rolled down the ramp. The Suzuki’s battery was a tad run down, as Pete had left the key turned on. To give the battery a bit of a boost he and I went for a blat over Mt. Pihanga taking in the sights at the Tokaanu lookout and Lake Rotoaira.

Can I just chuck in my two cents worth chaps....
Thanks to all for a cracking night out. Again, sorry we couldn't do the full weekend, but as explained, cash is extremely tight at the minute.
However, did manage to get fantastically drunk, (much to the disgust of quickchick....), talked absolute bollox, and chicken kebabs for breakfast is now highly recommended.
We'll try to do better next year, at least this time we came on the bike eh?
