Counting to twelve?

The other day I was in a place called Mopti (yeah I know it sounds like a pet rabbit) which is in Mali, Africa. I was sitting in a restaurant (well if you can call it that) and there was something funny about the bloke who was serving us. Took a while to spot the difference, he had six fingers on each hand (5 fingers and a thumb). WTF, am I lower on the evolutionary journey or what as I can only count to ten (with my shoes on)? Any one out there that can explain? Cant see any real advantage other than pounds shillings and pence and perhaps being his girlfriends best friend, but think about where he could buy riding gloves. Funny place that Africa.

Wouldn't say lower...

It's likely just a random mutation caused either by chance or that his father used battery acid as lipstick when he couted the mother (can't remember the name of the tribe - but there are people who actually do that).
If it turns out to be a benefit it might evolve to become the common thing over the course of a few million years. However, with this bright new society thing we have it's more likely that he'll get burned for being different...

Edit: If you could retain the same level of motorskill while having six fingers - that would be awesome for playing guitar!

I cant remember her name but there is a lady with 3 fingers and a thumb on each hand and she can type at some phenomenal rate. Less is more.

We took one of our owners (one of the royals) and his family to Timbucktu (GATB) for a hunting trip and then positioned the aircraft (GIV-SP) to Mopti (GAMS) where there was fuel and a more secure hotel for us westerners (Kiwi & American pilots with Spanish and Italian FA's) Returned to Rhiyadh the next day empty. Fairly suitable runways at both but no navaids, though Mopti had a GPS approach. The weather was fine and we completed the last part of the flight visualy although we carried Bamako as an IFR alternate just to cover our arses. Interesting flying in Africa, we departed Rhyadh at midnight flew north to Hergada in Egypt to pick up another, then across Libya and Algeria (about 7 hours) for a morning arrival in Timbucktu. Flew the entire breadth of Libya with absolutely no response from ATC and only managed to drag a doubtful relay on HF out of a sleepy controller in Algeria. Basicly flew unattended proc separating ourselves from the others via VHF position reports. That time of the night there were only a few 747 freighters struggling along in the mid thirties, so we basicly had the upper levels to ourselves. Which made life easier.
