Make sure someone asks him "now Phil who actually holds the World Land Speed Record"

    Who holds the record...?

I thought you'd need two people (i.e. a team) to complete a sidecar attempt...

...and he's a genuinely good bastard as well!

Phil was the person who organised everything behind the land speed record attempt I believe. However, they were two riders: Phil Garrett and Glen Hayward. Glen was 4 km/h faster than Phil on the measured distance IIRC. As such Glen holds the world record and Phils speed was entered for the NZ record.

I believe the book you are referring to is "Flying Kiwis - A quest for speed" by Kerry Swanson and Andrea Spinks. It's worth a read IMHO and you can pick it up from a number of places - most certainly from Street & Sport motorcycles on Manchester St.

No promises due to roster but I would be keen.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.
