Loos are closed as there is now no electricity to run the septic system.

Cafe on top of Rimutaka Hill road on fire
The Dominion Post | Wednesday, 20 February 2008

The fire service are attending a fire at the cafe at the top of the Rimutaka Hill road. The fire service received a call about midday that a generator shed behind the café was on fire.

Crews from Featherston and Greytown attended, and by 12.30 it was nearly under control.

Am gutted for the young chick and her parents who are trying to make a go of it up there.

I had been talking to her about putting on a dinner for TCWNR nearing the end of daylight saving. Was thinking we could go over da hill and halfway back so that when we finished it wouldn't be a long way home in the dark.

Looks like we might have to scratch that then

Encouraged in there by a leaseholder whose lease is currently on a month-by-month extension from the property's owner, having expired at the end of 2007. At best it's a two-day-a-week business with no supporting infrastructure. Not a particularly satisfactory arrangement when maintenance of the summit toilets is a condition of the lease.

Looks like a convenient insurance claim to me.
