Best Alarm/Immobiliser system

I am buying a new GSF1250SAT and want to make sure it is protected as well as reasonably possible. I was hoping that there would be a manufacturers option, but unfortunately not. Mr Suzuki hasn't cottoned on to the fact that bikes get nicked on a regular basis. On most other accounts, he is pretty bright!

I have looked through old threads however cannot see where this has been debated. If anyone can point me in the right direction as to the good and bad ones, it would be very much appreciated.

The dealer I am using has recommended the Mongoose MCA500 as a freebee throw in. Does anyone know this product or suggest any alternatives I should be considering?

I had the MCA500 on both my dual purpose bike and SV, and found it great in both instances.

It was very responsive and easy to operate, but no annoying false alarms.

You can get a pager for it which has a range of about 500 metres I think. Good if you want the added security of knowing the alarm is going off if you don't think you're close enough to hear it. But the alarm is loud enough on it's own anyway. I think the pager option is $180 extra. You can choose to between a traditional pager or receive text messages to your cell phone (at your cost).

Number One has bought the SV, she might be able to give you her opinion too.

I've got a MCA500 on the thou, good little alarm, loud enough etc. You'll need to buy a mercury switch if you want to get serious about detection, the standard unit has a knock sensor but no tip sensor. It also has an engine start function, but with modern bikes it's pretty useless as most require you to have the clutch in before it will wind over.

At the end of the day though, if someone wants yur bike they'll take it. People ignore alarms, and I know one guy here spoke of 'stealing' his own bike wth the alarm going off (him and two mates putting it into a van iirc) and no one bothered to even ask. It is good however for when you have the bike in the garage or driveway, ie in your own earshot. Don't bank on anyone else doing anything except cursing the fucking alarm going off outside their house, and being happy as the sound slowly gets quieter...

With the way it sometimes takes Voodoofone 2 days to deliver a text message, I prefer the pager idea.

I've looked at some of the USA adverts, which are a lot cheaper however I don't know if they will be recognosed by the NZ insurers.
