It is a dream to see New Zealand (and that other English speaking island next to you guys, forget the name, Austria or something?) by bike. I have friends who live in Auckland and my parents will be going for a year to teach there in 2010. So I dunno, thought I would maybe plan my dream a few years early
Look forward to checking out this site, thanks!
Wow - I was in your home city in May of last year - what a fantastic part of the world. Wish I'd known about your company then!

Ahhh, Prague - the most beautiful city in Europe, with great beer and beautiful women!
How easy - or difficult - is it to get a motorcycle license in the Czech Republic? What sort of tests do you have to pass?
Yes, it is! Well, I am not sure for tourists in NZ, but for us that live here... it is freakin expensive (for both car and motorbike) I have to do so many hours driving, and I have to drive with the teacher behind me. He has his own handlebars and break, but it was really hard for me as I am not so big and my teacher was a regular sized guy! Then you have this multiple choice test, which I studied all winter for cause I took it in Czech, out of like 500 questions they ask you 20 or so and you can only get 2 wrong. Not fun. Then the driving part (but I cheated and only drove the car and pasted for both bike and car!)
So yes, it is much more difficult than in the states. No idea what pain you guys go through?
Yes, and we just started this motorcycle rental company in Europe. Hoping to help people rent bikes for trips all around Europe. Also inviting renters to go on trips with us. And we are doing some purchasing as well, either for expats who live here and don't speak Czech, or people either in the Czech Republic or anywhere in the world who want Classic Czech bikes in mint condition such as a Jawa Perak, etc. Just new this year, so wish us luck!Originally Posted by Badjelly

I've learnt to hide the pain inside, open the throttle and ride away.
Thanks for the info on the Czech testing. Here in NZ we have to take a practical test to prove basic handling skills - this is usually done in a parking area, not the road. Then a multiple choice Q test of around 35 questions. This gives us a Learner's License and a top speed of 70 kph. 6 months later we can do an on the road practical test, being followed by an examiner usually who is in a car, for around 20 - 45 minutes. 12 months later (or 6 months if over 25 years old) we do another on road practical test and finally get our Full Motorcycle License.
I have a friend from Oregon, USA. He went to a one (or two?) day course that involved riding small motorcycles. Thats it - pass this short course and ya got your license. Simple, but I bet more young people in Oregon have bike accidents.
In Cali it is the same. You take a written test and get your permit. Then you take this 3 day MSF course and get your license. OR you can take the driving test instead of the course and get your license.
The course is really good though, so good that some insurance companies give you a 10% discount if you take it. And you must pass the coarse to get your license. I was thinking fo taking the course just because it is supposed to teach you great saftey and handling skills on the bike. I guess if insurance gives you discounts it must mean something, right?
