    Anyone fractured their scaphoid (wrist)?

Got my cast off today after 2 months in plaster

Wrist is half the size it used to be and in need of a tan. Still quite sore but it hasn't fully healed and has been held in that position for 2 months so probably just in need of some movement.

Anyway was wondering if anyone has had this injury and if it has caused problems after fixed. I would be keen to get a cti wrist brace but jesus christ they are expensive. Gonna try get ACC to buy me one along with a shoulder brace.

Need to prevent this happening agin as don't want to have bone grafts etc + work will not be pleased.

    Experiences?

Did both of mine when I was about 12. Took years and years to regain flexibillity and strength in mine.

So far so good, Hence why I want to prevent it happening again.

I think it will take some time to come right.......

Did mine 2.5 years ago, not right yet. On the plus side, I can tell when it's going to rain.

Would recommend going to a hand physio ... specialises in dealing with those injuries and working you up till you are ok to go and do it again.

Had a Colles fracture. Just go to physio to get rehab and exercise tips. Only took a month to get right.

Funny thing is I have hair loss where the break was and 20 years later still no problems.

Yup did mine when I was 16, unfortunately at first they xray'd it and said it wasn't fractured and left it. Then after the swelling had gone down and it was still weak and painful they looked at the original Xray and said it had actually fractured promptly popped me into cast...of course given the delay it couldn't be set at the right angle so I suffer with it in Winter.

Scaphoid never comes completely right. Very poor blood supply. I did mine in 1989 I think and it is still a pain. It does impact on wrist movement and strength, but the effects aren't that noticeable until you get through your most vital years and begin your decline.

Did mine 12 years ago and no grief since. I'm up to about 12 broken bones now - it's the neck and back fractures that give me troubles...
