I'd like to embed thmbnails in the text of a story/report and they link to a larger pic but that starts getting difficult...

I did that when I ran the Great KB Photo Comp a while ago, it wasn't very hard but you had to spend a few minutes setting it up, and practise how to do it.

Now that would be a great way to do it. How about starting a thread in Site Stuff, Jamie. You explain how to do it, and I'll sticky the thread.

If only it were that simple I would. But it only works with your own Flickr or Imagebucket-hosted images. I will have a look and a think anyway.

All it needs is the thumbnails and pics to be hosted. It's just a pain to set up the linking but once you do it a few times it's less of a problem.

Also there'd only be a few people who write the longer reports that would benefit from it.

    The current size limit blows.
I would contribute more if embedded pics at 800 x 600 pixels were allowed.

As it is I embed them on ADV and send people there to look at them.
That is slower than embedding 1024s on here.

I only attach images of KBers that I'm happy to give up control of.
If I value a shot I embed it so I can also remove as easily.

    Change the rules please.

You can do what I did here. Upload the images to your Kiwbiker Gallery (Quick Links->Site-stuff/Gallery), then use the thumbnails there (right-click, Copy Image Location) for embedding. Then select the image-embedding code, click on Insert Link, and enter the location for the full-sized image (click on image in gallery so it opens up in a new window, then right-click Copy Image Location).

No Flickr or anything else, no Attached Images cluttering up the bottom of your post (and restricting to 6 images at a time).

id like to see youtube links avaliable as thumb links only as well, but as far as im aware, that doesnt work.

I much prefer attachments - you can add them, delete them, do what you like, so Big Dave I'm not sure what you mean by you imbed them so you can remove them as easily.

To a viewer I prefer to see the thumbnails and only load up what I want to look at and then you don't have to put up with all the zubes that hit reply to the post and have them all displayed again making for very long threads with f'all in them.

    go the thumbnail
    Cheers

    No.

after a period of time you cannot delete uploaded images.
If i sell it - I need to be able to delete it.

The rules mean you don't see a lot of mine or Nordie's and other good photogs best stuff.

Or about the size of a postcard on a modern screen, which is ideal. Any bigger it would fuck up the flow of the page. Larger pictures can be sent as an attachment. Regarding file sizes - we have enough of a shitfight getting people to adhere to resolutions. Anything more complicated is bad.

Disclaimer: I know next to nothing about thumbnails/attachments etc. This is the only forum I use on the net so may have taken some stuff for granted until I read this thread.

I am one of those dial-uppers who lives way out of town. 40Kbps average. No options available that make economic sense, as all I do is a couple emails a week and enjoy kb. I actually had to upgrade my ISP plan at some cost to allow for enough time to view kb when I decided to join and not just lurk! Not complaining- it was my choice and money well spent to participate and get some new features available to members.

A big THANK YOU to the site gods who have set the restrictions on size. I gather it annoys some folk out there, but I hope you can come to terms with doing the thumbnail thing. At least then I can have a peek and decide if it is worth 20 minutes of my paid limited time to look at one picture a bit larger. I think I have the option to set my controls so there are no pictures, but then I would miss out on a lot- wondering what a picture referred to in a post might be...

Anyway, those are my thoughts on the subject. Cheers.
